Preparing to go home!

Sorry to have to say this but - we have decided to return to the UK. We will be returning at the end of July.

The reason:
We have been cheated and lied to by the agent and the builders we were buying our property from. We sacked our solicitor, who turned out NOT to be independant from the selling agent and employed another one to try and get back our deposit, he succeeded in getting half of it back, we have had a long wait and finally got the cheque yesterday. I have been waiting to get the cheque before posting as I wanted to put a close on the ordeal we have been through. Finally it is over, all the stress we have been through, the anger and the tears, all over and now we can look forward to returning home.

Sorry to hear that Lionda. There are some complete b****rds in this world aren't there, and most of them working in the property markets

Hopefully you can turn your dream into reality another time.

Hi Lionda

Such a shame that you are returning to the UK with a bad taste in your mouth. It does not seem that long ago that we were all hearing about your imminent move to Spain and how positive you were.

Will you be returning to the area that you left in the UK or will you look at other areas? I know that you have enjoyed your stay here despite the trauma that you have been through so are you thinking about returning to Spain or has the problems put you off for good?

Either way I hope that the future is rosier for you and that you will be able to put the difficulties behind you and move on successfully.

Good Luck.

Rosemary

Thanks everyone

Rosemary, we were living in Hampshire but won't be returning there, we have decided to return to Lancashire where I still have family and friends. Houses are cheaper there also and there is a better chance to get back on the property ladder.

As for returning to Spain in the future, I very much doubt it, there is too much corruption. I can't invest in a country where a building firm is allowed to build houses on an urbanisation, and promise a completion date one year before they actually get permission to build and even persuade gullible purchasers to sign deeds without an habitation certificate which the town hall are hesitating to give because some of the property owners have added pools and extensions to their homes without licences and permission from the town hall

Lionda, seeing it in writing has now made me realise that you really are going back, I am so sadden by your experience but at least you had the nerve to fight for what you believed in. I think there are many people living where you were that didn't realise the situation and now that they have paid their money in full will find it hard to move on if they wanted to.

OH and I truly hope that your move back to the UK will be as stress free as it possibly can, that you find somewhere in Lancashire that you can settle down in and call home. Much love and best wishes to you and your family:wub:

UNBELIEVABLE. My friend, who has just discovered her husband is cheating (bear with me there is relivance) just sent me mail saying, 'It always happens to the good ones'. I am so sorry about your situation but at the same time positive about your new life and decision. You sound relieved.

As you know, the same town hall...or maybe not, Huelva?... allowed my father's neighbour to destroy his house. Go figure!

I agree with the suggestion about Portugal.
Good luck...

Just remember to pack an umbrella ;)

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Yes, we are relieved that we have at least got some of our deposit back, we've still lost a lot of money but won't let that get us down, we have fighting spirit

No, expat33, it isn't Huelva where we were buying but an urbanisation in Castalla, about 50mins drive inland from Alicante. Lovely area but the urbanisation is so corrupt! Just wish we had discovered the corruption and lies before we moved over.

Why did you only get half, surely the builders breached the contract, or did the solicitors do a deal and share it out between them ?
