Default Pregnancy / Giving Birth in Spain - Advice pls..

Hello, We are planning to move to Mallorca, Spain. My wife may become pregnant in the coming year and I wanted to know what options were at her disposal.

Some have said the NHS equivalent is available while others say it will only be covered by private healthcare.

I work remotely with a UK Ltd. Company that I am the director of.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

As long as you are paying social security in Spain then you will be covered by the Spanish public healthcare

By the way, if you are working in Spain and resident in Spain then you must pay social security in Spain. It doesnt matter where your company is based you should pay social security and income tax in Spain

... and the only way to pay SS is to be employed on contract or self-employed.

I have not yet found any way to make voluntary payments.

Yes according to my lawyers you will have to be come self-employed in Spain and bill the UK company either as a Director of the Spanish branch - which you would have to set up here in Spain, or as a freelancer

Thanks Everyone - 250EUR per month for SS + no minimum threshold for VAT when working freelance. Not ideal, but at least an option.

Just a note that if you want to be resident legally in Spain and work, then it is not an option at all. It is a legal requirement!
