Default Power trips

Does anyone know what causes our consumer unit "Trip" switch to go off at any time of day or night, summer or winter, rain or shine - regardless of whether we have lots of appliances running or nothing except the fridge freezer ?
It usually can be switched back on immediately - IF WE ARE HERE !
Occasionally , it refuses to go on again for a few minutes.

It drives us crazy - always worrying if we will return to a defrosted freezer. This has happened many times and it becomes boring eating all that chicken for days on end rather than throw it all away !

We are in the campo and this has been happening for the whole 10 years we have lived here.
A recently fitted new digital meter has not improved the situation at all.

Our neighbours suffer the same problem.

I'm sure there are some bright "sparks" out there who can answer this conundrum - but I haven't found one yet.

It is highly likely that the trip itself is faulty - it should not cost much to get it replaced. This has happened to us.

... or you could fit a surge protector in the main 'box' in case it's this that's causing it.
