Who cares why?
Just hope it continues going up.
Bit of extra cash for a lot of retired folks. An extra G&T or two.

Pos something to do with rumours of Greece wanting to leave the euro or maybe Germany wanting to leave the euro. Who knows. Can't so anything about it so don't worry about it.
Ice in that?

I’m an optimist, since January, 2009, I’ve had a 20% pay rise. Please don’t mention the 30% fall before that.

Bit of extra cash for a lot of retired folks. An extra G&T or two.

And a bit less cash for us working folks, who still have to send money back to the UK.

Ha Ha, but a bit more cash for us working folks who still get paid in GBP.

You've had it good for the last couple of years with near parity between the Euro and GBP but in real terms it's meant a 30% paycut for many of us.

Can't see it lasting though. Not with the state of the UK's finances. Still, we can always dream about the good old days of 1.50€ to the pound.

The UKs finances arent any worse than anyone elses - including germany and france who seem to keep their problems it well hidden. At least the UK has admitted the problem and are on the way to rectifying it!!?

The GBP went up against the USD today - the EUR less so - the result is that the GBP went up against the EUR. It hit 1.2 today but has dropped since -probably speculators taking their profit.

What will happen - who knows - if I did I would soon be a millionaire!

The EUR is not popular at the moment for many reasons, particularly Greece and more recently the Spanish credit downgrade and Spanish banking problems.

The whole thing is so volatile you have to take the decisions to buy/sell on a daily basis. I bought Euros last week at 1.75. If it goes over 1.2 tomorrow I will buy some more. I can live very well if I can maintain a rate near 1.2 - being on a UK pension income in GBP, parity gives me nightmares!

Seemingly it went up because of the failure of the PRU deal with AIG? all I know is for once possibly the only time it went upe on exactly the day off my monthly transfer so not complaining.

Pru converted 35 billion GBP into USD to do the deal but now there is no deal it is converting back to sterling which is causing a temporary rise in the pound.

The pound is still rising, and I don't know or care why.

I remember Thatcher saying, 'I like a strong pound.'

So do I.
