Is this what you had in mind?

I don't know about that Matt but this garden was a building site 4 years ago.

So I guess I have had a 4 year head start!

Well done, there are many out there on their way out to Spain, and they may not realise that something can be done.

Its hard to be original in Spain, or most of the Med to be honest but there are some amazing gardens that go a little against the grain.

Thanks JDR. It looks great in the photos but you should see it after a strong wind - it looks like the Ganges after a Hindu funeral!

Geraniums are pretty flowers but they are not - as Matt succinctly puts it - "litter free"!

Thanks Matt - you're a mine of information. Here's a great site www.hotgardens.net and there are some good tips for being water-wise for areas in most southern Spanish provinces where water, mains or wells, can be scarce.

In our area, water can be high in salt and/or calcium carbonate, so guttering and containers to save rainwater are a must, especially for the pots.

This covers plants common on the west coast of the USA where the climate is very similar to Spain.

I have found this book invaluable and you can get it from Amazon UK at a reasonable price.
Just seen my name mentioned - L.C.'s Med Garden Plants - thanks and hope you find the book useful!

Thank you Eve - just seen your posting. And watch my plant nursery - my intention is to source all those plants that will grow happily here but you never see. eg cytisus battandieri, the Moroccan broom you've all been chatting about
