Plant Identification

Grows wild in parts of my garden, has nice scented flowers.Any gardeners on the forum know what it is,should I cut it back in winter, how do I get it to spread (cuttings or seed)?

Re: Plant Identification

Are the flowers pinky or yellow (only two colours I've ever seen)?

If so, then it might be an annual and therefore only grows from seed each year.

As to the name - haven't got a clue but would like to know.

White as well, seems to die down and return every year, although I don't know if it's in the same place (perennial?) as a lot of my garden is wild.Has a corm but I don't know if it spreads from this or as you suggest seeds (or both?)

Looking at the leaves, the shape of the closed flower and the tendrils in the photo I wonder if it is good old bind weed.

This looks like a plant that has a spanish name with Noche in it. I can't remember the full name. It flowers during the night and has a strong scent?

Could it be a datura? Although they don't grow from corms.

Looks like a Nicotiana to me.

Re: Plant Identification

Looks the same as in Freds link.one of the gardens in the village has what I always thought to be Dama del Noche with much bigger flowers and a perfume you can smell from 20 metres away. This must be a smaller variety,Should it be cut back or just left?.A couple of mine in a corner of the garden still have a few flowers left

Re: Plant Identification

We have lots of this, or so it appears from what you have described.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirabilis_(plant),
The downside is it can become quite invasive, especially where you dont want it to be.
It will come back each year and can also be yellow with red markings.

Re: Plant Identification

Now I am confused.the tuberous root sounds right and it is invasive, never seen it in yellow just red or white. The picture in your link shows an open flower but the one I have doesn't open,

I was a little confused by the correlation of time spent in Spain to the ability to identify plant species
