When we ran the informal boules club, we played near the shop.

There are loads of places along that strip from near the river.... by the outdoor 'gym' all the way along to the roundabout at Encinas... there shaded by trees. Other places too around Esuri many far 'better' than the terrain the French will sometimes play on and still have great fun!
Setting up a boules 'pitch' either opposite the shop or at the Golf club, proved to be one huge and complex task, so we gave up. We even had 'investors'. The GC wanted a lot of money even wanted newspaper publicity. Not easy!
Both options gave the local bar business, and so we could use the WC facilities.
Then the mayor said there would be a boules pitch set up at the new 'sports area' near the shop. It didn't happen. Lets see if it does in the future.
I feel that this sports area, should have toilet facilities. Or IMO it will fail. Ive contacted the 'authorities' on this. I would even be happy to give the potential kiosko owner free rental if (s)he promises to keep them serviced. That way we will have another social option on CE - and if we have say some competitive games - we would need them IMO for players and supporters.

Hi Jon
Was just at a CERA meeting. Apparently the Mayor has confirmed the boules pitch on plot 6 and that the kiosk would open after Easter.
Also he said that the Golf Club were also going to set up a boules pitch - although I may have misunderstood that.
However, I thought that at the MC we said we would have an informal game and organise via this thread.
PS are you still up for Monday?

The GC were going to have one, but wanted too much money. I pulled out when they offered a deferred payment plan for 50% - nice idea perhaps but I didn't want us to be on the hook for the other 50%, especially as we felt that the original 50% that we were prepared to donate, covered their costs.
It also got a bit 'silly' for me when they wanted press coverage with the town hall, which though great to have, wasn't something I felt was part of the negotiation, especially as the town hall were not involved! I guess this is where the mayors interest was piqued.
Note: I played a small part in all this, a very enterprising friend did all the work, went through all the hoops and frustrations that exist here for doing anything! We also had a few great people willing to donate.
If the GC have re-thought to put in a 'pitch' then this is new to me personally, and I am buying my friend a thank-you lunch. His efforts will have kicked this off - and the GC will have realised that after all this work, this could be good for them to take the initiative, after we pulled out.
It would be a bit odd if we end up with two however.
When the weather clears up - we can round up some people... previously we had a cool bag with drinks and all had a laugh - we were a mixed group of age/gender etc. We started mid afternoon, played a slightly 'different' version of the game for fun and finished off at the 'local' after.

Great that the mayor says this - but I hope it actually happens! Again a WC is on the critical path for me.
