Yep. That all makes sense. Mine doesn't have an expiration date so I've never needed to change it as there have been no changes to the information on it. And because I've not changed it my permanence has never been accredited.

The certificates do not expire. If you applied from scratch rather than after your old residence card expired, it will not have "permanente" on it but after 5 years you have that right by default. If you want a new certificate with the word "permanente" on it you have to apply again and pay the fee.

If you choose not to, that does not affect your actual permanent residence status. However, with Brexit looming, I would make sure you actually have it in writing.
