Our experience of living 5 yesrs in London must have been an imaginary bad dream then. And we were definitely not living on a budget. Maybe the whole British food system has changed since we left in 2007
Though I have to say we are very spoilt my suegros are amazing cooks and my OH has been very spoilt. For example, when we eat jamon it is jamon de jabugo, when we eat fish it is wild - and they know all the best restaurants The food is incredible in Galicia, I'm just amazed by your opinions. But hey the world is a varied place. My OH's brother would rather eat pizza than bogavante :) No one can eat either all the time, anyway. And at times I would rather have a pizza Have you read my post, I love the food from Galicia, but we miss a nice portion of veg or two. That is all I am saying, your in laws maybe amazing cooks, as our families are, but we are not in a "my lot are better than your lot" debate. And there is nothing you can teach me about the food in Galicia. I simply made a comment about veg and you are telling me about my own region of Spain as though I am a complete idiot. You even throw in "suegros" to show how intergrated you are. What is wrong with putting the word "in-laws" it is not like you dont know the English equivalent, which could happen in my case. |

I'm not treating you like an idiot or trying to teach you about Galicia. just cant believe you're raving about English side portions of veg  But good for you, I'm glad you enjoy it, but no need to have a go at everyone who doesnt agree with you btw, I like prawn coctail crisps and sausage rolls :) |
Re: Are people on pensions staying?
As the site name is British Expats dot com I didnt expect to find Spanish nationals on here neither people living in the UK who have never ever lived in Spain or those who moved back ages ago yet always having an opinion of life in Spain and rubbishing genuine British expats living in Spain opinions and experiences.
Wouldnt it make everyones life a little easier if posters stated their nationality and where they live etc? That way potential expats and genuine expats seeking information or advice would know who to read and who to ignore. |

I cant see it myself, so could you please point out the bits that give that impression, as that is not what I meant at all, and I should review what I have written, and where necessary learn from my mistakes. You sound like like the one with the chip on your shoulder, all thinks in the UK are bad, bad, bad- You cant accept the fact that not all of us think the same way, like it was a bad dream, to quote you. If I hated Spain I would not be here, it is possible to like both countries, you know |

Re: Are people on pensions staying?
I am amazed just how many spanish or married to spanish are on this forum, certainly bucks the trend. Kind of re-enforces the debate doesn't it:rofl: Suppose my opinion doesn't count being English! Have travelled widely in spain though and have yet to find any food sold that could be described as awsome in any province, is it 'cos I'm a Brit:rofl:

If I hated Spain I would not be here, it is possible to like both countries, you know I love Spain for many reasons and food is one of them I am not arrogant or stupid enough to say Spain is better than the UK or vice versa, just sharing my love of Spanish food when I see people post opinions that I do not relate to. You are choosing to interpret my comments in the way that best suits you i.e. you've classified me as some ditzy British person who has learnt a few words of Spanish and eaten the odd paella and now wants to enhance my social status by getting-one-over other British people with my extensive inside knowledge And you continue want to bring me back down to earth by saying the reality of Spain is the complete oposite. Well, your reality of Spain may be, but it doesnt match that of many people I know - or my own experience. That's fair enough, but dont keep telling everyone else they are wrong in an agressive manner For what its worth, I think wveryone should be able to be on the forum, who cares what their nationality is? |

Nowhere has anybody, least of all myself, suggested that anyone be excluded from this forum. Even the nutters are welcome as they provide some light relief from the endless same old same old. |

I am beginning to wonder if you live in a parallel universe.
Firstly you should give the names and locations of the wonderful shops you buy your produce in. I doubt for one moment there are better shops where only you can go:rofl: 1. The UK does not have the reputation of having the worst food in the world. 2. All my Spanish friends have loved the English style food served at my house and absolutely loved the food in England. 3. Without a shadow of a doubt the quality of food in UK supermarkets is far superior to the wilted old out of date rubbish sold in Spain where of course there is no choice at all either.... I suppose the punch line will be that that you shop in a sponsors store.... UK supermarkets! I laugh generally when I see the selection in there of, for instance fresh fish or meats. The selection and quality of veg and fruit in our local market are superior in taste (OK not looks) to the UK. You asked the question ..... I really do wonder sometimes where some of you shop

Re: Are people on pensions staying?
I like living in spain (am fluent too:rolleyes:), however I did not choose the country for it's food, gourmet it aint, take away the paella and ham and what's left, everything cooked the same and as quickly as possible. Even decent ham now costs 20+euro for a few slices. (ok. I know some of you can get the best quality for half a crown!). Italian, French and British food is far betterin quality and value.

Re: Are people on pensions staying?
When I mentioned the healthy eating in Spain, which seems a lifetime ago (in posts), I was talking specifically about the famous Mediterranean diet – fresh fish, fresh vegetables and proper olive oil – and you can buy all those in Mercadona, under one roof, and we do, every week.
I haven’t shopped in England recently, at least not a proper, big shop, so I can’t compare what is now available in Tescos, on the other hand I would be surprised that with all those refrigerated lorries running around, it’s not the same stuff. Actually, if you wanted to eat healthy in London, you’ve got Billingsgate for fish, God, I’ve forgotten both the names of the meat market in the city and the vegetable market that used to be at Borough, I’ve been away too long. |
