You can so long as the Dongle you have is unlocked or compatible with your chosen provider. They are like mobile phones and can be locked to a provider but can also be unlocked. If you look on E bay you get plenty of unlocked ones much cheaper. I think i paid £15 incl postage fora brand new one which was on 3 network but unlocked which I took to Spain and used with my Masmovil Sim no problems at all.

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
I wasn't aware of that but I do know you can just get a sim card from Masmovil who like carrefour use Orange as a provider. Worth looking at good rates I have had no problems with them run it all on line when I am over there.

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
Most days I have internet at the library but the Carrerfour deal seems a good back up at only 3 euros for the odd days I don't:) although 100mb isn't a lot of surfing in 24 hours

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
Anybody know what happens if you go over the 100mb (the girl in Carrefour didn't) funny as she's trying to sell the product;)

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
When mine was nearing the daily limit they sent a sms to the dongle. I think on a previous spell with them they then went to slow mode

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
Thought that might be the case......how slow is slow mode......dial up speed? Or slower.......

Re: PAYG Wifi - advice needed please
We've just got rid of our Vodafone dongle, as it had got very unreliable and slow.
We've replaced it with wireless broadband from Broadband4Spain, with a small aerial on the roof to receive the signal from their transmitter. It costs 29€ (inc IVA) per month and we are getting just under 6mbps. We had to pay 6 months upfront to cover the installation charges and first 6 months of service, then we pay nothing more until the 6 months are up. After that we pay by the month, and can cancel the service if we are not here (doesn't affect us but might suit people who divide their time between Spain and the UK) with no reconnection charges when we want it back on. We're very happy with it so far. |

It sent me a sms alerting me I was approaching the daily limit. It should have gone to dial up speed after that but seems to have carried on at around the same speed but every 10 minutes or so dropped the signal and I had to reconnect. |

I went over the limit a couple of days ago. Usually I don't go over but there were a 7 updates for Windows that got downloaded. So it's also worth bearing that in mind if you only use the dongle infrequently.

How long do you get just surfing forums like this one?
If you have a dongle you can check the statistics to get some idea of what you are using. I have got to say it suits me fine. |
