Passport expired
If a UK passport has expired can it still be used for i.d. purposes i.e. if stopped by the police.

Your UK passport is no longer a valid form of identification, but if the guardia would notice, who knows

Re: Passport expired
That's a surprise, since a passport is still the only internationally recgnised form of identification.

Re: Passport expired
In some circumstances it is valid for ID for two years after expiry - as an ID. On UK domestic flights for example.
I can't see the Guardia worrying about it unless it is years out of date. They are more likely to give you grief if your driving licence is out of date and that is usually accepted as ID.

If you apply for a new one you have to send the old one away anyway. It costs a lot but you'll probably have the new one back within a week.

Re: Passport expired
I mistakenly interpreted your statement to say that Passports are no longer considered legal ID in Spain - which, considering some of the other nonsensical "legalities" in Spain, somehow I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Passport expired
I regularly use an out of date driving licence to support my (pin protected) VISA in shops petrol station etc .
Any body know why only some large shopping chains (Leroy Merlin etc) but NOT Carrefour use this method of DOUBLE protection.
Obviously there are trillions of transactions that take place in the U.K. WITHOUT this 'extra protection'

Re: Passport expired
Just as well we both have valid Spanish driving licences as both our passports have now expired.
