Default padron renewal?

one of my students brought me a letter which seems to say (if I understand all the legalese) that he & his wife need to renew their padron.

I didn't think the padron had to be renewed unless you needed a copy, or you moved

this is according to el Consejo de Emapdronamiento 27 Junio 2008

their old fashioned residencia cards are about to run out - could it be that, in fact?................. even though it definitely says Padron Municipal

Like you, I don't believe padrons can expire. However, I have heard that a lot of town halls are chasing people up to get them on the Padron and to check if they should still be on it (ie. not left the area).

I guess in the current climate, it's all about getting as much money as possible.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is - they just want to check that they're still here

they signed on the padron about 5 years ago & haven't moved so haven't been back since

I told them to pop into the padron office next time they're in twon, but not to make a special trip

Padrons don`t actually expire, it is just that some of the clerks that look at the paper like to see a date of less than 3 months old on it for some reason. lol

they actually both recieved letters from the Ayuntamiento saying they had to go to the statistics office & 'renew' their padron!

nothing to do with them needing a copy for anything!

We were told by the town hall that the padron was valid for 3 months and would have to be renewed. That was 2 weeks ago!

No, it's the padron certificate that needs to be renewed if you wish to use it for something important.

As has already been said, the entry on the padron register does not normally need to be renewed.

well these people own their house & haven't moved since they originally came here

you should inform the padron when you move whether you own or rent - no difference!

Drifting a bit, can you only be on one at once ? I have two properties one in Frigiliana and one in Torrox Campo which is a fairly new purchase, to qualify for the grant for a new log burner I need a certificate from Torrox but am already registered in Frigiliana.

And, strictly speaking, you can only be on the padron if you are a full time resident and it is your permanent home.

However this has not deterred many local councils encouraging many foreigners with holiday homes to sign on - which is actually illegal.
