EDIT............... forgot to say, which would help the discussion no end I know, he lives in Norfolk........... NOT Spain.

We opened our Spanish Bank Account a year before we moved here; provided a British address and used only a passport.

We bought our house too with just a passport (just after we'd opened the Bank Account).

When we became resident here, we simply had the bank account changed from a non-resident to a resident account.

Unemployment payments, i`ve been luck not to need, I didn`t move to Spain from the UK.

I`ve only lived in the UK a short period, so I doubt I`d qualify for much JSA anyway.

I'm having real problems opening a Spanish bank account.

I think there was a new law that requires a proper workers contract. It is driving me mad!

Ask them for a non resident account as you don`t work here.

It simply cant be right.
I am pre retirement age. Dont work. Yes I converted froma non residents account to a residents account with SOL bank a month ago.

How would all the non working early retirees open accounts if this were the case.?

CAI Aragon, opened a non residents account with a passport. When my first pay cheque went in and we were 'empadriamented', 3 months later, automatically changed to a residents account.

I was in Sol bank last week and all they wanted to open an account was passport and rental agreement. I'm told their charges are quite high though.
