Not So Happy Hour
#1
Not sure if its come up on any other threads yet, but according to the news Catalonia has just banned Happy Hour as part of a new health drive.
NO more two for ones and no more as much as you can drink after paying the entrance fee or else fines of up to 10,000e.will be imposed.
Seems the times they are a changin'!

Well the news of that pop star dying can't have helped. In the UK the Tories intend to bring in a policy stopping the sales of booze by shops, supermarkets etc after 10pm. Sound familiar anyone?
Always surprised in Spain by workers in the bars knocking back whiskies or brandies at 9 in the morning. Wonder if they'll stop that?

Maybe it me but I cant believe people go out to a "happy hour" bar and get pissed just because they save a few euros ??I drink to relax and socialize and I like to go out when I want, where I want , drink what I want and the price dose not come into it unless I feel I`m being ripped off.
If you want to get pissed cheaply buy two bottles of paint stripping vino at 50 cents each from Lidl

But this is exactly the sort of thing you see in Benidorm with it's cheap beer, English breakfasts and Sticky Vicky brigade. We lived there long enough to feel ashamed at the way a large amount of Brits behaved both locals and tourists alike. I'm not a snob (as I was called on another forum for saying this) but for the life of me cannot understand why Brits think they can come here (or any other country) and think they can behave how they want irrespective of any laws yet wouldn't dream of doing the same back home.

As long as the yobs,pea-brains and plonkies are attracted to Benidorm, and staggering around its streets in an alcoholic daze,..they arent wandering all over the rest of the country, reeking havoc and mayhem amongst the toffy nosed snobs in their fancy villas out in el campo.....

I lived there for a while and met many nice people and made some good friends but they were outweighed the others complaining about their hotel being full of "foreigners" (Spanish) and complaining about everyone talking Spanish and complaining about Spanish food everywhere and complaining about, well anything and everything. I think the Benidorm series actualy shows it in a good light.

Actually I think it was much more of a desperate place back in the late 70s.
The authorities now seem to make the best they can of a bad job, with regard to policing and trying to keep the place reasonably tidy.
