Ah ... the whingeing countries. Yes, I'm aware of what a field day they were having hitherto over those matters that require near unaimity.

Let's see how well they do now they're not doing the double-act.

Fact is, when you sign up to EU membership, you also accept the rules re: what constitutes agreement, which, by and large these days, is gravitating towards QMV (as the current leaders of those countries know very well, and also that their countries became members when that was already the case).

So, as already stated, EU rules are drafted by and agreed upon by the member states. It would be tautological to add "according to the rules". If you have any examples of actual dissent in this instance on the part of any of the member states, particularly if they constitute a majority under the voting system they all signed up to, fire away.

There are two solutions here.

Prices jump exponentially as soon as your destination or point of origin for a reservation is any city in Australia. The trick is to just fly to Singapore and then use Scoot from there onwards, where even Scoot Plus (formerly Scoot Biz) is a decent product at a very attractive price (more like a dentist's chair, but sometimes the price is equal to economy elsewhere).

Another issue, at least in my case as it only has a local affect (though similar cases might affect others), is Wizzair's exit from Gran Canaria. With them gone there is less pressure on Easyjet/Ryanair to compete for the Luton route price-wise now that there are less seats available.

As for the solutions you mentioned, how about a third: apply EU rules to any carrier wishing to access EU airports or make them pay extra fees in lieu of the standards we apply to ourselves.
