Default NIE i.d. card

Hi, I have a simple question: Where can I get a NIE card??

I have my NIE in form of a piece of paper. I just want to have a credit-card sized version equivalent to the DNI of Spanish people that i can carry around with me, use for id when paying by card, etc.

When i did my empadronamiento the other day the woman there told me they definitely exist and apparently they are given as standard now when people get their NIE, but for someone like me who only has the paper version, she had no idea where i can get one, hence my question on this forum

thanks for your help!

Your "source" was misinformed AFAIK the plastic laminated "ID" cards with photos, fingerprints etc are only issued now to Spanish nationals and non-EU foreigners (e.g. Americans) in Spain.
The old style residencia cards for EU foreigners are still "in existence" but only until they expire, when you now have to get yourself registered as an EU foreigner in Spain and you are issued with a paper certificate for your troubles So, for photo ID you now have to use your passport or driving licence...
Are you non-EU?

I read in another forum that you don't need photos for NIE application as the rules have just been recently changed a few mths ago. Is this true?

I think you're all confused between the NIE & the 'new' residencia

Yes, no photos are needed to apply for an NIE. You just need to show them your passport and give them proof of an address (in Spain I think)

You haven`t needed them in this area for about 8 years, they just used to hold your passport up and scrutinize your face, there is no space on the forms for them anyway.
The last time I took people to the police station they were given the green Residencia certificate and their NIE was included on that, perhaps they are getting more thorough on knowing who is in their country.

You only have to identify yourself by using your passport. Just try to memorize your NIE nr. so you can provide it when neccessary. You don´t have to carry it with you. Or just fold the paper to a creditcard size so it fits in your wallet.

You may find that some Stationary shops will reduce you NIE A4 paper to a credit card size and Laminate it for you, had mine done 8 years ago.

Just write the number on a piece of paper and put it in your passport. There are not many times you need your number in everyday life. and the Cert. states that it is no prove of identity
