Default NIE any advise REALLY welcome please

My daughter moved over there last week and has been to the police station everyday since to get their nies sorted

They have now paid the fees and completed all the forms but have been told to go to Torromolinos tomorrow

They have sorted out a rented apartment but cant get the electricity sorted with out the nies?

How long does it take to get them issued once the application is accepted and if anyone has any advice it would be really appreciated thanks

Some areas are much faster than others but I understand that the average is 7 to 10 days but people from that area will be able to tell you for sure. In some places it is immediate whilst others are long winded.

Semana Santa is Easter week and is wonderful here.

Around here residencia takes longer than NIE but in the area you are talking about it could be different. Hopefully someone in the know in that area will answer you soon.

can they then just do the nie and leave the residencia until later if it will delay things?

I would suggest that they do them together because of the need for so much paperwork and sometimes a lot of queueing. I doubt whether one would delay the other.

If it is a hassle then they should get a gestor who can handle the process for them

It is unlikely to cost more than 50 euros or so. They may even be able to talk to the utilities companies and landlord for them. There should be a workaround solution even without the NIEs

a gestor is someone you pay to sort out your paperwork for you - there isn't really an english equivalent

you should be able to find one in the yellow pages - or they could just ask locally - did they rent through an agent? they could probably suggest a local gestor

Please do not apologise for asking questions we all have had to at some point or another.

A gestor is unique to Spain really so there is no way that you would know anything about them. They are best described as people who know the system and will ensure that you complete the correct forms and visit the necessary offices with your paperwork to save you the hassle.
