Not happy with this extra layer of admin hassles...

Just when you thought post covid travel would become easier, no PLF's, certificates, etc etc!!

It is pretty much the same as going to USA and the visa is for 3 years so it is really, as you say, just another bit of form filling as opposed to extreme cost. Mind you, expect the UK right wing press to make it sound like some evil revenge tactic applied by the EU to punish UK!!

ETIAS is only for third country nationals, not EU nationals or EU residents.

EES is also coming on line very soon but again, it's not applicable to EU nationals and EU residents.

ETIAS is not a visa. Visa is entrance permission in shape of large sticker-stamp in passport, issued by embassy or consulate.
ETIAS is European Travel Information & Authorization System, as it clearly says in 1st post, not a visa.

If one doesnt like extra admin, one can chose not to travel to EU. Nobody forced at gunpoint.
UK is to implement similar system soon.

ETIAS, like the US ESTA and Australian ETA, is a form of preclearance, enabling the issuing authorities such as EU and individual countries to dispense with routine first-line entry control, to stop those with arrest warrant, previous immigration offenders etc from accessing the border. This will enable UK travellers, for example, to enter the Schengen area just by having their passport scanned instead of the current in-person checking and stamping of documents. Border officials still retain the right to examine passengers individually, but for most ETIAS will hopefully lead to faster border crossing into and out of Schengen.
EU nationals and third-country EU residents, such as those with Spanish TIE, will not be subject to ETIAS and are more than likely to be waived through by showing passport or ID card and residence document, as it increasingly happens now.

You and Catherine are the same as me and Kath we won’t need one for Schengen travel. EU passports are sufficient!

Of course I understand the new rules as it applies to me personally, (and you) as after all, I did the OP.

There are many here who might be affected so they have advance notice now for the new 'paperwork' coming next year. Some may not have heard of this too (I only found out about it recently.)

Have 'fun in the Sun'

We are having fun, not much sun though which suits us it was too hot at home and cloudless skies. Steady 25* here and cooler at night.
