New to site, and looking for advice

Hi everyone

We are hoping to move over to Costa Blanca at the end of the year. We are just about to put the house on the market, after finally deciding to go for early retirement.
So far, we have explored the Alcoy/Cocentaina/Val de Gallinera areas and love the scenery! Since coming back to the UK we have been researching the Ayora Valley and like the sound of that too!

Unfortunately we won't be able to get back over there till August, so if any members can give us their opinions (good and/or bad!) of our (so far!) chosen areas, we would be really grateful.

Many thanks
Sally

Hi & Welcome to the forum

I'm sort of up your way but near to the coast. I'm biased I know, but I think its a wonderful part of Spain :)

a few years ago the properties were very cheap in Alcoy and surrounding areas and since then they have risen, lots of Brits moving to those areas - which you can tell just by looking in the local paper ( think its the inland trader) with an Indian opening recently and lots of English builders, mechanics etc etc

good luck with your search

Thanks for your message. Interesting to note more Brits are moving there. We are hoping to find a finca with some land for our dog to have the freedom to roam. Can't wait to do it, as the weather here this morning is foul!

Hello Cornish Maid,

I wondered if you knew of any other Westcountry expats out there? Or if anyone else does?

Wishing you all the best,
Denhams

Thanks for the reply. As yet I don't know of anyone else, as I am new to the site! I take it you are from the West Country then? If so, is it Cornwall?

We are hoping to relocate to the Costa Blanca by the end of the year. Where are you in Spain? If our dreams come true, we want to move to a finca with some land for the dog to roam freely, preferably in Alcoy/Cocentaina/Val de Gallinera/ Ayora Valley region.

I´m from the Westcountry but live in the Costa del Luz whose beaches are more like those in Cornwall washed by the Atlantic.

Re: New to site, and looking for advice

We have bought in Almeria between Aguilas and Mojacar just outside a market Town called Huercal Overa in a small hamlet
Nice detached villa on a 400m2 plot about 25 mins to coast
Finca's are a problem as the ownership/water rights etc are difficult to establish Modernised ones where all the problems are sorted are OK but more expensive
We wanted space, a spanish environment but not isolation so we chose this area
Why Almeria?
Best climate in mainland Spain
Very Spanish but not isolated and top facilities [the hospita in Huercal Overa is one of the best in Spain
This area is called the Spanish Cornwall
Country Parks near by
Good for golf and walking
Granada is 2 hours away so we can go skiing for a day
It is an agricultural area so there are in parts a few greenhouse [ like UK now] but not as many in this area as near Almeria itself...but you do not notice them
Properties are good value
Cost of living is cheap..local market somewhere every day
There will be lots of space for dogs.....have a look

Re: New to site, and looking for advice

Hello,
Intrigued to read that the area you live in is called Spanish Cornwall - is that a name given to it by the locals or is it "officially" known as Spanish Cornwall?

I wanted to know more about the area (has it got links to Cornwall do you know?) but my internet searches aren't really coming up with anything. Do you know where I can find more info on this?
Thanks for your time,
Denhams

I think you had several replies on the renovation ... clearly no one knows Roldan. I came up with this on google, but thats about it
