I seem to be regarded by most people as a low user - under the first scenario my last bill would have been €10 lower and under the second, €36 lower. Like yourself I find it difficult to believe the second one, I don't think they would be so munificent!

Whichever it turns out to be, it seems those worst affected will be the poorest in society due to the phasing out of the social tariff - which is appalling.

I always thought 3 kw was the lowest which suits me fine with the help of bottled gas.

Yes it does mention the effect on the Bono Social but it seems that it would also apply to all users.

The Bono Social applies to very low potencia supplies below 3kw but also to people on low incomes with a higher supply.

3.45kw is now the lowest potencia permitted for new contracts - but there are many people who have less than that (including those who have never transferred the contract into their own name). Our late friend's house is still on 1.1kw, for example.

When we bought our place, the potencia was 1.1kw. We had the house rewired and had the supply potencia increased to 5.7kw which was apparently the max we could get. It means we can, should we so desire, have the kettle, toaster, oven, washing machine, TV and water heater all on the go at the same time. Not that we do since that's akin to burning ten pound notes in the street given the current cost of energy in Spain. Our last electric bill was €49 of which €9 was electric used and the rest was the charge for potencia, tax, tax and tax.

We did do a few weeks of absolute minimum use of electricity to see where the greatest usage was. Without a doubt in my mind it's the fridges (we have 2...nust change that!) and the freezer. That's where I would look. Also air conditioning is MUCH more expensive than using a fan. So if you can get away with a fan or better still prepare your house well for the heat like the Spanish do. My 'Spanish mommy' (friend) mops her floors each day as the evaporation cools the floors and thus the house. It works. I've tried it! Of course you need a high window open or vents to get rid of the hot humid air then!

I take it your place is a holiday home, then? Unfortunately, you and others in that position, plus owners of empty properties, are likely to be the ones to suffer the biggest increases in bills under the new tariffs, sadly, as they will have to pay the increased standing charges but not benefit from the decreased unit costs.

I got my latest bill today, €92.08 (late May to late July) of which €57.88 was electricity used (415kw for the 2 months). I don't find that too bad.

Yes, our place is currently only for holidays but come 2017 we'll be permanent wrinklies. Can't come fast enough.

I remember that feeling - we used our house only for holidays for nearly 4 years before we moved and I used to hate going back! It will soon pass, I'm sure.

When you are paying bills that seem to consist almost exclusively of standing charges and tax it does seem a bit galling but I suppose that must be true of holiday homes no matter where they are.

I think what irks me the most is that I paid for infrastructure the to deliver the electricity, yet I am required to pay a massive standing charge regardless of how much I consume.

I still pay 10c per day for rental of an ICP which not only did I buy outright (and own) but is no longer required since we have a new digital meter (which I paid a further €230 for).

Why on earth did you pay for a digital meter? When ours was changed to one, we paid nothing at all. Surely Endesa cannot impose charges which differ from region to region? I pay rental for ICP too, but we did actually ask to rent one. If I had paid for it myself I certainly would not agree to pay the rental charge.

I got Endesa to come out and check our meter as I felt the consumption had gone up by a fair amount (about 30%) after it was fitted. They warned me that the check might cost €30 if the problem turned out to be with our wiring (eg an earth leak). The technician came, checked it and said it was working fine. We have since changed our water heater and sure enough the consumption has gone down somewhat. I was waiting to see if Endesa did charge me for the meter revision as there was apparently nothing wrong with it, but the new bill arrived yesterday and there is no charge on it.

I think they see you coming with some of the outrageous charges you seem to have paid re electricity, I really do.

As I said earlier, we have no pool or air con, and use gas for all cooking and most heating. That is bound to make a substantial difference. Apart from that we have all the normal stuff (fridge/freezer but not a huge one as for 2 of us I don't think we need one the size of a small family car, washing machine, tumble dryer which is rarely used, kettle, toaster, microwave, TV, digibox, hi-fi, hair dryer, vacuum cleaner). No dishwasher though. I have my washing machine set to wash in cold water all the time - with modern detergents it works fine and as our clothes are only worn once they are not exactly filthy. Just treat any stains with stain remover spray beforehand.

When we swapped information with people about electricity bills before we got the new meter, they always used to say oh, it must be your meter that is faulty, you will find yourself getting a huge bill when it gets changed. Well, it hasn't happened!

We have everything you have but do have a pool and a dishwasher.

I don´t understand about the water from the hose getting warmer, what does this mean because ours is but I thought it was because the hosepipe is lying in the sun.
