I haven't got that model, but on my Samsung, it's menu, vodafone, Pay as you talk, balance. It's a free call. If you have a contract, presumably it'll have that instead of PAYG.

Just to hijack/piggyback or whatever, what about the other providers (specifically movistar) - can you get the balance, cos I always end up being 'saldo inferior de......' at the most inconvenient moments!

thing is, once you get the 'under 2 euros' message you can get an 'antícipame saldo' of 4€ immediately - that's always been enough to carry me through to whenI can get somewhere to top up

What, a kind of IOU? I've always avoided saying yes to that kind of message ....how do you action it & do they take the money off the next top up or what?

you ring 2233 & follow the instructions- I'm sure your spanish is good enough by now

then next time you top up they just take it off

And 2266 "pulse uno" will give you your balance by text, free but I believe only once per day.

Movistar - Check - call 22661 or text *133# or *#133#, cost 15 cents + IVA. Log into Canal Cliente, free. Consulta el saldo
Movistar - Text with the new balance after every call - set it up with a call to 2266, free. Notificación de saldo
Vodafone - Check - call 22134 or text *134#, cost 15 cents + IVA. Log into Mi Vodafone, free. Gestión de consumo
Orange - Check - call 1414 or text *111#, cost 15 cents + IVA (first five free a month). Log into Zona Personal, free. Consulta de saldo
Yoigo - Check - text *111# or log into Mi Yoigo, free. Servicios
I'll stop there, if you've managed to find another company which isn't one of the big four then I suppose you also know how it works.
Depending on the company there are other codes where you can bother people with requests to call you, bother people with requests for reverse charge calls, bother people with requests to send some of their balance to you (or if they're on contract it'll go on their next bill), go below zero and pay it back on your next top up, or ask for a balance advance from the company. Most of this stuff has a fee somewhere.

Thanks all; I'd been reticent since hearing (on BE) that movistar had withdrawn their free 'check your balance' service maybe some 18months ago... seems it's no longer the case
