Default New to the forums! some newbie questions

Hello Everyone!

Myself and my wife are talking about making a move to Spain at the end of next year, initially for a year and then we’ll see how it goes, but honestly we’re a bit stuck with a few points and looking for some assistance! We’re looking to move to Murcia, Costa Blanca, that sort of area but I wonder if someone can help me with the following:

I work from home and I like my job so don’t plan on leaving it, and it affords me a great deal of latitude and they’re happy for me to work from anywhere in the world, my only requirement is fibre internet, while ADSL/WiFi are normally fine they won’t afford me the stability needed overall, So I need to try and find a good area with Movistar fibre available (or any other provider if there are any) and wondered if anyone had any experience with this!

We had initially looked at places like Polop, Torrevieja or anywhere along the coast really but trying to find information on the available internet connections is spotty at best! And a lot of it is out of date. We are looking to be as close to the coast as possible but will go where the connection is!

Apart from the internet connection we’re looking for an area that isn’t exclusively Brits but a mixture of both would be a good starting point we feel, we also have a daughter who will be 2 at the time we move and obviously if we stay we will be considering schools for her so with that and healthcare any advice would be welcome!

Hi and a warm welcome to the Spanish forum on BE. Myself and Fred James are the moderators for the Spanish forums whilst BEVS moderates Europe. Moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. This is so that members gain the information that they are looking for and find their experiences on the forums to be friendly and worthwhile.

Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderator who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are usually friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the issues of living in Spain. I hope that you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Haha, cheers Steve, Yeah been looking at that, We're trying to avoid being in the largest of towns but it's good to know it's in the area!

The new Moviestar fibre optic internet network is being laid in all the surrounding towns to Benidorm over time so its just a case of picking where you'd like to live then checking whether it's there.

I would think that Valencia would better suit your needs (the city that is)

Thank god you changed it. Nearly fell off my chair. Can you share your experience with it please. I need it for work and will be living in Albir. What is the cost of setting it up if the home does or does not have internet or a phone. Also, is there any limit as I want to also use it for my applebox to watch tv, and is it wifi or do i have to connect it to the phone.

Sorry, and the speed how fast or slow is it

My son has Movistar fibre optic in Alcoy - not near you but just some feedback.

He pays (actually I pay for him) 55€ per month for a fixed line and 100Mbs internet via the fusion package. It always seems to be there with no lack of performance. So a thumbs up from us.

Moviestar have an offer on at the moment (don't know for how long) Free installation, it's fibre optic advertised at up to 300mb. Our apartment does not have any original phone service so when we had the internet installed the phone service is actually through the fibre optic network. It's a reliable fast service and I have no problem with my wifi TV box.
