Hi
I am selling up and moving to Spain as my children have grown up and I want a bit of sun, and would like to meet friendly people who speak english to chat to and make contact with who are living in Spain. My spanish is a bit ropey, and I want to improve this. I am moving with my cats to (hopefully )Cadiz or Almeria, not decided yet, and am looking at property and will move next summer.....
Please get in touch if you've made the break as it would be nice to hear your stories of leaving the UK. All advice welcome!

We and our Two Cats, made the move last June to Javea Port, and I can honestly say it was the best move I have ever made. I recommend that you rent before you buy any property, to allow you get a feel of the area there is a good ex pats community as well here ,you can still take Spanish Lessons very cheaply. The cost of living here is fantastic and fresh produce and nice and cheap, and most important of all it doesn't go dead quiet in the winter months where a lot of places do, so choose your area carefully, there is lots to do and see here. Once you have all the legal jarrgon out the way its a doddle, but our solicitor for a small fee done a lot of running around for legal bits and pieces. worth every penny! Good Luck Regards Mo

Hello Suze,

I would advis eyou to take a few trips out to Spain before you move out here , this is to see which area you would like to settel down in. would you like to be on the coast? Inland? tourist areas? English communities? English/Spanish, Have you been to Spain before? there is a lot to think about but as all ways its up to you.

My wife and I settled for Inland, with easy access to the coast we both drive and have the use of two cars, so we dont have any problems about getting oout and about. Also we had two children with us when we first moved here now the eldest one has returned to the UK to join the Army, the younger staying here to finish school.

We find the Spanish people very friendly and helpful, there is a lot of paperwork to plough through, and this can take time, before you can settle down but once that is out of the way you can enjoy yourself.

I do hope you make the move with as little stress as is possible and wish you all the lick in the world.

Hi Suze

If you are looking at the Cadiz region you may find www.Costa-Luz-Holiday.com helpful as it has a buyers guide and also tourist information on each resort in the area.

As someone else said it is a very good idea to rent in an area for a while before buying so that you are sure the area is right for you.

You may also find this site useful :http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm it has info on taking your pets to Spain and the EU regs on it.

Make sure you do your homework before go and you will be fine.

Have a wonderful trip

Hi Suze

I agree re doing your homework, I have seen too many move over here and are thrown into the proverbial deep end. Having said that, we moved over more than two years ago with two dogs and have settled in with no regrets. We are nearer Almeria being just inside Costa Tropical at Albunol and the lifestyle is great and so are the locals who have befriended us, always getting a steady stream of fresh vegetable's etc.
You do need to make sure you like the area, Almeria and Cadiz are rather chalk and cheese, as a previous post has said come over and stay in both area's before deciding.
May I suggest if you plan trips back to the UK, you think of how far it is to an airport to suit your travel destination, there are not as many airports over here, the UK seems overrun with them.

Good luck in your choice
