We are currently hoping to move to Nerja, Frigliana, Torrox region, but have a question to anyone living in the region. When we were last there discussions were going on regarding the sewage treatment works commencing. Does anyone know if this is definately going ahead on the east side of Nerja, and when it is likely to start. When we were last there it seemed quite a heated topic so would like a bit of news.

This is Spain, still full of talk that I know of, although I am up in Granada get the occasional CDS papers

Even the "scandal" about all the illegal properties in that area seems to have died a little. A couple of local councils have issued amnesties with a couple of hundred euros fee for making legal. Only one or two takers, the rest say their properties were legal when they bought them.

AFAIK, similar discussions have been going on for many, many years, so don't hold your breath. However, according to this they have the money and it will be finished by 2015. Even the alcalde says not to celebrate too soon, as they haven't started yet. Unless you intend swimming off Nerja, it'll hardly affect you, especially if you end up in Frigiliana or Torrox.

Thanks to all for the quick replies. My husband worked for South West Water for 30 years and is a bit obsessed by water, however it seems a shame not to be able to swim off some of the beaches it does beat a swimming pool. It is also such a shame to see sewage slicks off the coastline. The costs of the fines to the local authorities from the EU must make it more economical to build a sewage plant.

Whether people simply don't know or are prepared to risk it I don't know, but plenty do swim there. Can't they see the infamous "s**t slick" or do they just ignore it?
