Although I've been told I should keep these things secret :) there is a fantastic walk you can do along the river Chillar from Nerja up into the mountains. You actually walk inside the shallow river for a couple of hours until you get to some rock pools which is a good place to have a picnic.
It's not such as secret for the people from Málaga though, it was heaving with Spanish families when we went on a Sunday in the summer. It was a beautiful day out and great to see the kids messing about in the waterfalls and rock pools. If you want less people then go in the week. The route starts near the old quarry which you can get to by driving from the place where they have the Sunday market. (I know the market site - is it signposted from there at all?) |

The route isnt signposted as far as I can remember, we had to stop and ask someone the way to the quarry (cantera). We had to drive underneath the motorway bridge.

But if you are looking for a place that is full of english people and full on non stop partying nerja is for you :thumbsup:

Nerja is certainly not just for the 'older generation'. There is a square called Plaza Tutti Frutti that is the centre of nightlife for the younger generation and the 'young at heart'. Here, and in the adjacent Calle Antonio Millon there are 20+ bars and discos that open from 9 ish until 3 or 4 am. The place is not buzzing until about midnight, and during the sumer months is still busy at 4am. It is really good to have all the noise in the one place and the rest of the town can rest. If you walk through the Plaza during the day nothing is open and it looks like a ghost town. In fact you would not recognise it as the same place at night when all the tables and chairs are out and coloured lights. Certainly worth a look if you are in Nerja late at night.

Sounds as if there is a bit of everything quietness if you need it but also a nightlife. Will make sure I have a good look at the area.
Does anyone know what the schools are like in the area? Thanks x |
