Default Murcia vs lanjaron

Morning all,

We are currently looking ahead to the next 2 or 3 years and one option is we decide to buy a villa in Spain. We have Spanish residency that we are going to renew in November in gran canaria as the 5 year period is up in November.

Currently we are living on a boat and have a place in the UK still.

Ideally would want to be near a marina so we could still have a boat and thinking of somewhere like Murcia , as Cartagena marina is there.

So what is Murcia like to live in please and would be looking to spend about 300 to 400k euro on a place with a pool.

The reason I am asking in comparison to lanfaron is we have relatives there that love it and say the bills etc are so cheap compared to the UK, is that the same in Murcia?

Thanks

DTD

We have lived in gran canaria for a while and now thinking of the mainland and selling the boat to buy a villa .

Am asking about things like electric, water, council tax etc between the 2 areas as happy with the normal living costs such as food and clothing etc

With the sort of money I assume you have (300-400k house budget) I can't imagine the differences will be big enough to worry you.

But then again, having not lived in either area, maybe I am wrong.

They are totally different areas as far as countryside goes. I presume as you mention relatives in Lanjaron you have visited that area? it is quite green really not so Murcia area which is desert like. No Marinas Lanjaron? but the Costa Tropical coastal area is in my view very nice . Cant help re costs we live in Axarquia area and are currently holidaying in Aguilas Murcia area which has a large marina. Eating out here i think is generally cheaper than where we live . Mind its generally hotter here nice beach front but not much else although pleasant and very Spanish i have only heard around 2 other English voices than ours and been here a month, i quite like that. I suggest visiting the areas you are considering as very different apart of course from most costas being similar but away from the costa town? Thats as much as i know Im afraid

Interesting lifestyle. Is that in the north or the south part of the island? Do you also sail between islands sometimes?

We lived on a boat in Puerto mogan so the SW of gran canaria. We sailed round all the islands whilst there and have just returned from a period sailing across the Atlantic and being in the Caribbean and then returning.

Sweet, Puerto Mogan is beautiful though personally I prefer the city (and "big beach") lifestyle that Las Palmas offers over the southern enclaves. Are you mainly planning to move to be closer to relatives? Personally I find the climate (or rather "climates") in GC hard to beat - it's literally that sweet spot (at least up north) where you can get away without aircon or heating. And the 75% discount on travel to/from the mainland is a bonus too...

Sailing across the Atlantic must be quite a journey, one that requires some solid planning too (at least as far as the forecasts can reliably count out any adverse conditions along the route). Must be quite a feeling to see land again after many days of just ocean...
