Default Movistar billing question...

My bill for landline and ADSL contains a charge of 5,4404€ for 'Teléfono con Mantenimiento Integral y Servicios'. I guess I am paying for their telephone handset which sits, unused, in a cupboard but I'm not sure what the maintenance and services refers to. Is it the handset or the line? Is it possible to reduce the bill by cancelling all or part of this? The handset could go straight away but not sure about the other bits.

It includes the rental of the phone, other services like 3 way calling and caller identification etc.

You can get rid of the phone and supply your own but you may want to retain some of the other services.

Call 1004 and you will find they are very helpful and speak English.

I have never met anyone who has successfully managed to get rid of the rented phone!

Ours sits in a cupboard in case we ever need to make a phone call during a power cut. We must have paid for it a thousand times over!

Yes, we didn't realise when we signed up that we'd be charged for the phone. We paid an initial cost which we thought bought it but now we pay €2.52 per month for the bloody thing. Ho hum, you live and learn.

Got rid of mine about 5/6 years ago. I just rang 1004 and they, in English, told me what to do. I handed the phone in to a 'Telefonica' shop who gave me a reference number which I then passed back to 1004, no more rental.
