Moving to javea

Hi everyone,
Well we have decided on javea and looking forward to moving over beginning of march. We're a family of 4 our twins are 8 years old so just been checking out the schools lady Elizabeth and also xic. We're due to fly out on the 23rd of January once hubby home from offshore :) so were hoping to secure a long term rental contract on a 4 bedroomed villa. If anyone can give me some advise as to schools I would be gratefull. Also if there is any after school activities for my twins 1 boy and I girl.

Also is there a javea specific forum so I can meet new friends for myself as hubby works away 4 weeks at a time.

Anyways were all very much looking forward to our move :)
And I wish everyone else starting out the very best

Hopefully you'll take the plunge with putting your youngsters into mainstream Spanish school, even if only for a couple of years (maybe more...!)........... as to specific Javea help, I hope Lynnxa will be along. She's a mine of information all wrapped up in one helpful parcel:thumbsup:

Hi there Fionamw :)
Thanks very much for the welcome and yes it is a bit of a dilemma at the moment. Just had a previous bad experience when we lived in Tenerife with regards to schooling. I'll keep a look out for Lynnxa :) thank you :) ;)

Bet you feel better now that you have made the decision of where to move to you can go full steam ahead with your research into Javea. Good luck with finding out all about the schools etc and hope that the move over is not too traumatic for you and your children.

you need to get up early to catch me :D

I'm an early bird rather than a night owl during term time - my 2 girls have been at school here since they were 4 & 7 - about a year at XIC but when we decided it was permanent we moved them to Spanish school - they are both now doing well in secondary - but that means an 8am start at school:eek: & you can only imagine the fun with 2 teenage girls (good job we have 3 bathrooms;)) so a pre-dawn wake up call

we wish fervently that even if hadn't turned out to be for more that a year, we hadn't wasted the money on International school - they were 5 & almost 9 when they started at spanish school & settled pretty much immediately

the standard of teaching is higher, they study to a higher level - for instance some of the maths material my dd in her last year of obligatory school (age nearly 16) is studying what would be A level material in the UK - & that's for the Spanish equivalent of GCSE

at least try the Spanish school - chances are they'd go to the Arenal which is excellent - it's in a new building which isn't yet full so many/most new kids (Spanish nationals too) end up there

they are very used to foreigners & celebrate the 'international' aspect this leads to, rather than it being a 'problem' as I've heard it described in some schools

they have a sort of 'buddy system' where they 'buddy' your child with another who speaks his language for a short while until he finds his feet

I'm banging on a bit - feel free to fire away with questions though - & if you want any detailed info on the International schools PM me - I know staff at both

afaik there isn't a Javea specific forum - well not one that anyone actually uses anyway - but you'll soon meet mums at the school gate & PM me & we can meet for a coffee - I know lots of people

We are planning on moving to Javea in the next few weeks with 3 children. Our son is 7years old. Please let me know when you are in town so we can chat.

We have decided to try the local Spanish school first with XIC as the back up if it doesn't work out.

Looking forward to it!

The trip was good, my husband met your friend, L, he said she was really lovely.
We have booked a holiday let short term, close to the port, thanks for the advice.
I hope to say hi to you face to face one day.

Dont tell the kids you have a back up plan as at the first hint of a problem in their school they will know they can opt out instead of sticking it out. It is a dilema and one many of us have had to face. There are arguments for both types of school but with help at home and a lot of encouragement either way it will be fine.
