Moving to Gibraltar
Hello,
Currently I am considering a job in Gibraltar and would like to get more info about it. As advised here in the forum, I will be living in Gibraltar initially before considering any move to Spain, because it is safe choice so to say.
I just have a few questions about costs mainly.
1. I have 2 little children. Does the state provide any financial assistance for children? And for non-working people, as my wife wont be working at the beginning taking care for my baby?
2. How much would cost having a car in Gibraltar - annual tax, insurance and etc.? How much does it cost parking in Gibraltar? I realize it is no chance to be in front of the building where I would live, but there should be parking lots in order to keep the car in Gibraltar somewhere instead of Spain.
3. How many nurseries are there available and which one is the best?
4. I would rent 2-beds apartment and I see that many of the offers are for some buildings like - Ocean village, Upper town, VIneyards and etc, what would U recommend me for a family with little children?
5. Is it possible to buy my weekly food from Spain? Am I allowed to enter with more food in Gibraltar? I suppose in Spain is much cheaper than in Gibraltar, therefore I am asking.
6. How much cost mobile plans and inet?
7. And in general, my salary would be around 2300 net, I see the rent would be 1200-1300, would the 1k left be enough to survive there?

1) No
2 There is no road tax, Insurance cheaper than UK comes with Europe wide green card.
Parking on the street if you are lucky otherwise expensive in 24 hr carparks
3) No idea
4) Difficult to answer but Ocean Village is expensive and noisy with music all night especially at the weekend
5) Yes you can buy food in Spain and bring to Gib, a lot of people shop on both sides of the frontier depending on price and tastes. A lot of expats on the Costa make trips to Morrisons for UK foods
6) Gibtelecom - driving Gibraltar's telecommunications
https://u-mee.com/ but not all buildings are covered.
7) Yes

Re: Moving to Gibraltar
We are currently in the process of moving to Gib (family of 4, 2 young children) and we have chosen the south district. Ocean Village looks great but as Fredbargate has said its noisy at night and do you really want to bring kids up next to a nightclub and casinos? (however the pools do look good!) For a really small 2 bed (rock facing) in Ocean Village with ground rent/service charge you would be looking at £1900 per month minimum. Upper town would be more value for money with your budget and the south district is a lot quieter.
I wouldn't even consider La Linea.
