Savateur has made a mistake with a Spanish word, and thinks that I have insluted his level of Spanish, which I did not. As I am on his igonore list, he wont have seen my following posts, but will be able to read yours and think that I have insulted him. I am not that bothered about that, worse things happen at sea, but there is no need to take the P just for the sake of it. |

I explained it was usually used in a teasing, amusing way - & not considered offensive at all his level of English is really good - but he hadn't come across this saying before it just shows how misunderstandings can happen when thinking literally |

This thread has been blown up into gigantic proportions, with ignore lists and all kinds being thrown around and it is so laughable.
All because I was asked to give my opinion on a piece written in Spanish, it was rather a jokey thread, me talking about my black belt in ORIGAMI, that type of thing. I said the posters Spanish was COJONUDO, and I got a really childish rant back. Since then there has been a lot of disecting the meaning of the word, if this word does have several meanings (some in LAM that I and other Spanish peeps might not be aware of, then so what. I meant it in the most common way, which I thought that if someone could write in Spanish, they could, at least, undertand an everyday word in the context that it was meant. Of course the person who asked the question, automatically, thought it was an insult, and told me to piss off back to the UK ( which is laughable) HOW WRONG I WAS Lots of words have multipal meanings. so the right meaning has to be chosen for it all to make sence. Cola as you know is one of them If I asked a barman to put some COLA in my drink, and he put some GLUE in it, I would think that he is a moron, because although it does mean, glue, the context has to be taken into consideration. If I go to the opticion and ask for glasses, I dont want the ones to drink. my Champagne from. When a guy asks his mate if he has any "Pasta", is he asking if he has a handful of macaroni in his pocket or money? The answer to that should be pretty obvious. I am of the opinion that a Spanish language thread on here would be a big mistake, as crap genereated by one would far outweigh the advantages. BTW my translation of the word cojonudo would be the word WICKED (its new meaning, not the old one) |
