Follow your heart, its not impossible, I admire you as I don't have kids and one reason for that is I would never want to bring them up in the UK.

There are (according to the same AUAN mentioned by Domino) 300,000 'illegal homes' in the whole of Andalucía that no one noticed being built. A region where they know if you ride a horse from one municipality to another, where they control your car, your paperwork, taxes and dog. Yet, no one noticed when they built these homes: more dwellings than there are in the City of Málaga!
Each 'illegal home' has two people with a house without electricity and water, a house that is unsalable. A story that should never have happened (really! Under the Spanish constitution, where we all have the right to a vivienda digna). So six hundred thousand people (large proportion of which are foreigners) are f***ed.
And secondly, and at the same time, the 2 million homes owned by banks are all legal. Funny that.

To the OP - the time for 'illegal houses' has now passed. You can be confident enough (with legal advice) to buy a fully legal house. Get a certificate from the Town Hall that the house is legal if it helps).

Just when you thought Spain was starting to see sense, preventing new buildings within 500m of the coast, they've now shelved that plan (well 59% of it) and given the green light for another 55,000 homes. Just what Spain needs, eh? There's nine lots up your way.

What's wrong with the UK? If you are living in a bad bit of it, then maybe move to a different area?

In the UK you have the advantage that you speak the language, there is very low unemployment (compared to Southern Europe) and you get free healthcare, education and lots of benefits if needed!

Plus you know how the country works

There is no amazing country waiting to be discovered. Life is hard in every country of the world

I love Spain warts and all, but it will be way more difficult for you to have a good life here compared to the UK

I expect you are finding it difficult, I think you might be looking for something that might be hard to find. Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of UK kids turn out to be quite rounded, sensible individuals (I know, I have two.) More and more Brit kids are returning to UK for university education and for jobs, (plus thousands of Spanish) as circa 60% of Spanish under 25's haven't a hope of finding a job. Reading a forum of Spanish working in UK, someone asked about returning to Spain, and whilst some said yes, the majority were quite happy in UK, quite happy to bring their families up there, helped in part I suspect because they have a job.

my reading of that means they have blocked any further development in those areas which still have illegal property problems - so would some/all of these projects fall into that category if built ??

Its not the country, its the people, the weather and the authority.

Quite right, not like Spain eh, perfect weather, the Spanish all love you, and authority, not a problem. I think you might be in for a shock of the unpleasant kind.;)
Mind you, you are from Essex, so the only way is up!

Andy, have you ever lived in Spain:confused:

I know you have been around for years talking about moving to Spain but can't recall any posts where you actually went there. The people who go because they dislike the UK are usually the ones who don't stay long.

Re: Moving to Almeria

Yes if you went back to day one of my posts when I was a bit of a jerk to be honest, a bit of a immature keyboard warrior, I have changed a lot since then you will see when my Mum Died I was there on and off for about 4 years from 1994 - 1998 and I regretted coming back here but I was 20 and needed work, so while I was there just spunked all the money I had and had to get my Arse in gear

I don't dislike the UK, I don't like what has become of the county I love, but If I was to write my true feelings it would probably not be seen as politically correct, I was born in Woolwich, what happened there recently has some relevance to my choosing to leave the UK.

I have not really gone into a lot of detail, but it was a long time ago, don't worry about me though, im just seeing the first year as a year out.

It has nothing to do with illegal properties.

It concerns properties that have yet to be constructed (if anyone can find the money) under the conditions of existing, approved general building plans.

These plans are effectively being modified to refuse approval for any further development within 500m of the sea.

It's a big problem for developers who have bought prime seafront building land on the assumption that they would be allowed to build on it on the basis of the planning laws in effect when they bought the land.
