Congratulations and good luck. I can remember how exciting it was in those last few weeks before moving. Enjoy it!

Not according to Harry Harrison. Officers got the name Bill with two Ls. I read the book, Bill the Galactic hero, which is a wonderful mickey take on the SF genre, and my close friend who read it at the same time gave me that nickname, which has stuck fast for the last 40+ years.

Thank you all so much for the kind words and good wishes. I'll be back from time to time, but there's a lot of weeding to do, and then there's the solar power system I want to play with and .....

Who knows, I may even end up sweeping a few chimneys. They tell me there's a need for it in the area. So a bit of a busman's retirement I fear. Ah well, like most things, I'd rather sweep in the sun than the rain.

Today was my last working day, and a good one for me to remember the UK by. Grey, wet and cold. I doubt I will ever look back on that with any regrets.

I'm off to the chip shop now for a last cholesterol orgy before tomorrow and hopefully a retirement full of tapas and cerveza. Perhaps I'll see some of you out there. I'll still be connected, just sporadically.

All the best, bil

I hate to say this Bil but it is cold, wet and windy here too and no central heating to make it feel better.

He'll be aware of that, he is in Spain now and has been for the last 2 days.

Now he can comment on life in Spain, anybody running a book to see how long it'll be before he admits he's back in blighty.

A bit of a conflictive comment from you here, I am sure most poster would wish him well and not be waiting for him to "fail" which is what you are insinuating.

In case you havent noticed he has been making comments about Spain for a long while, so why should he only be able to make comments now that he is living here.

If living in Spain is the criteria for posting, that would exclude a lot of people.

Are you living is Spain by the way?

It seems to me that he has thought and planned for this for a long time, usually people like that dont have to return to UK unless they want to.

So if Bil decides that Spain is not for him on a full time basis........so what, there is nothing wrong with going back.

Kinda was a joke.

Although not a Spanish one, I hate Spanish humor, but I'm not Spanish so its possible the translation losses it.

I just can't stand those two half bred guiri's on Spanish TV.

As for my previous comments ofcourse I'm kidding, its kinda obvious to most people.

No offense taken. All my life I´ve had people take book on what I´ll do, and most of them have been proven wrong.

I love sunshine and heat, regard learning a language as fun, and we are more integrated here than we were in the last two places we have lived in in the UK.

Also, I understand that no place is perfect, I am not tied by family, jingoistic nationality, football team or an obsessive need to eat a British diet.

All that is no protection against the vagueries of cruel fate, including family disaster and so on, but will happily bet you the price of a good dinner that I will not go back out of choice.

Talking of good dinners, you could tell me all about it in Casa del Califa one day! Best of luck!
