Default MoT test outside UK?

I have heard that it is possible to get a UK registered vehicle MoT tested in another EU country if it expires when out of the UK, is this correct? At one time I wondered if you could take cars to Gibraltar for a UK MoT but apparently they only do Gibraltar registered vehicles.

I will bow to higher authority but believe the only place a UK registered vehicle can be tested is in the UK.

Never heard of it. Try taking it to an ITV station and asking for an MOT. I have a vague idea of what they may say. MOT stations have to be approved and registered with VOSA.

you just may have heard people getting a spanish ITV (MOT) but it isnt valid, just voluntary. Not heard unless someone writes an illegal MOT form out. Need to take the vehicle back to UK.

I don't think you can get an "illegal" MOT any more as I understand they are all electronically registered.

A bit of paper isn't good enough any more.

Ah yes but I got a mate ..........................

But seriously I do have a mate that is an approved MOT inspector and he says with all the latest checks a "Bent" MOT is almost impossible and those that issue them will not last long as they are inspected and their records checked extremely regularly.

But they are issued as one of my neighbours demonstrates Taxed & MOT but never drives back. Lived here 10 years but still a tourist.

Personal plate.

This question is asked a lot on motorhome forums as members are always away travelling. You have to go back to UK..
No other way around it.. Also I dont think Gibralter is an option.

There are one or two suppliers of MOT and UK tax discs around but they are all produced on a home pc with an inkjet printer.

In the UK they would get pulled and found to be illegal, but what do the GC over here know? They don't have a hotline back to the UK so unless they know for sure that the vehicle hasn't been back to the uk in the last year then chances are you will get away with it.

[Disclaimer] This is not something that I do.
I drive a legal Spanish registered car with current ITV.

Just pointing out what some people still do over here to get around legalising their vehicles.

They have access to the DVLA online MOT check just like anyone else.

Whether they bother is another matter but they can check if they want to.

They can also check the road tax and SORN status

Does a personal plate make a difference?

I think so, to the morons that have a personal plate, they want to keep it and are happy to break the law to do so.
My Opinion. I drive a re-registered car by the way.
