It could still be an EU import tho (which is good news) but like i've said the original supplying country makes no difference if you've owned it for six months, so you could go over tomorrow and keep it on uk plates for 5 months (as you've owned it for a month) and then reg it without having to worry about supplying country and import tax.

As mentioned your main problem is if it's classed as a commerical vehicle in Spain and if they will grant registration period, nothing to do with supplying countries.

Please obtain a definate legal response in writing before taking it over as it will be false ecomony if it's denied registration.

Hi,
Speedo is mph and it is the mileage in km, what i think i would do is take it over and then see when it comes to registering it and if there is a problem bring it back to the uk and sell it then buy one out there.
Thanks Emma

Sounds a plan to me!

Ok one last thing as it could save you 3-500 quid.

Your vehicle is obviously an import of some sort so;

Does the speedo have both MPH AND KMH read out of how fast you're going?

If it just has MPH then the chances of it having a pulse chip installed into the cluster is quite high (it converts the speedo electronic response to show in mph rather than the original kmh)

9 times out of 10 whoever you pay to do the modifications will automaticly change the cluster, refuse this and ask them to check if it has a pulse converter chip installed.

It's a very simple job to remove it and then you won't have to pay for a new instrument cluster which is very expensive. Even if they are unaware of what it is or looks like, once the cluster is taken apart it's very obvious what it is, it's a few wires connected to a chip that's normaly covered in black tape.

They normaly put a mph sticker over where the kmh sticker was too, so remove that.

Hi,
The car reads it in both mph and km?

If it has both mph and kmh on the circle(s) then nothing needs to be changed then!

Just the headlights and moving the rear fog light over for you!

Goodluck with the move and I hope you get to keep your L200.

What I would ask is if you could let us know how you get on in terms of registering it in Spain it would be really appreciated, As then if anyone else in the future is in the same position we can give them a definitive reply, thanks!

Were the TVs etc standard on the car you bought, or have you added them, if the latter, then there are possible problems with the re-registering. The 12 moths tax and MOT really won't be a lot of use, if you are moving over here permanently you should have it re-registered within 30 days. In any event you must re-register it within 6 months. If you don't do that, and you will need your ferry or train ticket to prove the date you brought it over, you run the risk of the police taking it off the road. The rule here is, if you don't have the papers to prove things with you in the car, then they are likely to impound it and then you have to prove it is legal. There is no 7 days to produce your papers, you must have them with you, in the car, at all times.

Hi, The TVs in the back are in the headrest fitted by the tv place and the front one is in with the stereo and you press the button and it pops up from the stereo? these have been added since the car was purchased.
Thanks Emma :)

Hi Emma,
If you read through this thread you will realise that it does depend sometimes on the ITV personel as to what "you get away with". Officially your car should be in the same condition as when it was new, but in reality most things get missed bbecaus ethe guy doesn't actually know what was standard. However your windows are very visible (forgive the pun) so you may get 15 days to sort it out for free retest.
There are loads of people that have driven illegal cars in the costa del sol for many years, legally you have 180 days. You pays your money you takes your choice. Dave

Since my earlier post I've been given some idea of how much I can expect to get if I sell the car in the UK, and it's not a lot. Ideally I would like to take the car with me as I am quite attached to it and fuel is a lot cheaper in Spain.
Anyone have a clue as to the Jaguar dealership network in Spain?

Why dont you google the question then you will have the answer... hope you have a newer car as they dont deal with the BL/Rover era cars so much now they have been taken over by Ford.
Google

In the UK I get servicing and repairs done by an independent garage as I don't like being ripped off. What are the chances of a local garage having the

As you can see Jaguars are not very popular in Spain, so one would say there's not going to be many indy specialists either.

If it's one of the old Jags then you might just have to find a decent repairer and possibly import all the parts you need by yourself from the UK.

If it's a modern Jag then unless you can find a specialists with the correct diagnostics equipment then it's a main dealer job I'm afraid.
