Anyone know roughly what they cost, I was thinking 20€ tops to make one up (7' x 4'ish) using some netting and bits of wood but a "mate" just quoted me 80€ for the materials

Dont buy the cheap ones from DIY places that stick with Velcro .... a bit of wind and they blow away

Here's what I do. The netting, white, grey or green is pretty cheap, maybe a euro or two per sq M.

I then buy lenghts of thin lath, with one flat and one lightly curved side.

I fix a sheet of heavy gauge ply to a pallet, and mark a right angle on it.

Paint the laths on the curved side and cut them to length. Arrange 4 in a square, flat side up and stretch the net over, stapling it to the ply. Place the top laths on and drill them for screws. Take the top laths off again, and put a line of glue on the mesh where it covers the laths. Put the top ones back and screw them down. I make sure that the top lath joints are NOT over a bottom lath joint.

When the glue has set, remove the staples, cut the surplus net neatly, and then remove a couple of screws on each side, and drill thru those holes while holding it in place. Then plug the holes in the wall and screw the screen in place.

Job done!

Thats a far better idia than paying a couple of grand to get them made and fitted and they proberly will last longer aswell.I have seen some that were expensive and fell to bits after a month or two.

The cost is peanuts, and you don't need to be a DIY genius to do it either.

We ended up buying some of that stuff that Mitzy mentioned (I'm guessing) as that's all we could find. It's holding fast at the moment as the window is not affected by wind so plan is to see how long the velcro stuff lasts and then buy some wood to make a frame if needed. Total cost so far 10€

Yeah, and the spiders. I must admit I love watching the geckos run about the walls outside. I don't want them inside, as they can get trapped and die in the house.

Thats the main reason we did ours, to keep the cats out, as we don`t get many mozzies here.
