Looks like a snub-nosed viper mate.

No, I put then down to show the size, the car key is 8.5 cms, and the slabs are 30 cms, so I reckon around half a mtr long.

We had one of these in our garden in Chiclana - didn't realise when I caught it in a box and took it to some scrubland that it was poisonous!! Eeeek!

Didn't have much choice! Hubby was up a ladder and wouldn't come down (!!), our daughters were hysterical and had locked themselves in their bedrooms, so I donned my marigolds (two pairs - safety first!) and cornered it! Would probably just encourage it to move along with a broom now though! Must admit my heart was in my mouth when it made a move to bite me - the things we mums have to do! I ran down the lane as fast as I could, adrenaline pumping, dropped the box and scarpered. The funny thing was, when I told my parents, they said that they'd seen one the year before and didn't mention it as they didn't want to scare the girls!
