Re: Migrants Riot in Valencia
I love the bit in the article about complaints because they did not have ensuite toilet facilities in their rooms. I served 22 years in the military and never had that, did I riot? No. This world we live in has gone mad. I thought the idea of assylum was to save your life or certainly prevent serious harm !

Most of us grew up with no toilet facilities in their room. Many still don't.
Whatever next ...... "we have no soft toilet paper"

The report is not clear about the toileting conditions inside a cell.
How many people to a cell and are those cells locked overnight?
I've never had an ensuite loo in my life , however neither have I been forced to 'go' in a bucket in front of other people. The exception being as a small child. We had pots in our room as the toilet was an outside toilet.
If these people are forced to defecate and urinate in front of one another , I feel this to be inhumane in this day and age.
If they have free access to the detention facilities then as long as the facilities are equal to the amount of people having to use them, then there should be no complaint.
Yes. Yes. I understand that it is felt they should be grateful for anything offered to them, given what they are fleeing from, however would you want that for you and yours?
I rather feel what is being displayed is frustration and a loss of all hope , more than a complaint about the lack of Andrex.

Then maybe the information should be given by the lobby group then as to what the actual conditions are. The conditions may be basic? But smashing them up by rioting won't help will it? Given that these place is for those without documentation to prove who they are? Maybe some have been marked for refusal which is maybe as you say lack of hope etc but also would make me feel safer.

The lobby group should be specific so as not to mislead.
Yup. Rioting does not help anyone. From assorted reports, it was a powder keg of sub-Saharan men detained for documentation processing. Probably , by necessity, a long winded affair.
Interesting to know how a refusal is actioned. Is the person informed and immediately deported. Or would they be returned to the detention centre to stew and incite?
Whatever , I remain doubtful it was all about toilets.
Inmates at an immigration detention centre ran amok near Valencia, early Monday morning, culminating in dozens of detainees climbing the facilities' roof in an attempt to escape.
The incident reportedly began when two inmates assaulted several of the centres officials. The fight caused up to 50 other inmates to rise up, destroying furniture, emptying fire extinguishers and breaking doors, according to local press. Large numbers of riot police soon arrived on the scene, reinforcing the facilities staff, and quickly regaining control of the situation.
Spain's immigration detention centres are known as CIEs (Centres for Foreigners). There are eight in total across Spain, each with the capacity to hold as many as 2,500 people. Allegations of abuse and unexplained deaths at the centres have caused numerous denouncements of them from Spanish opposition politicians and non-governmental organisations

Yes I too agree that the toilet issue was way down the list of issues, it was just a point I read in the article and commented on. One thing that is good about the issue is they are or it would seem to be that they are carrying out an investigation to try and identify who these people are and what they may have done etc for the safety of the public. I do find it quite worrying that many of the so called "assylum seekers some will be that and need help others?" Turn up with nothing to show who they are and fail to help find anything out about them! Many of the public just get caught up saying let them in etc. For the safety of Europe we need to know who these people are and what they may have been doing or done in their home country. I also agree it is then a big issue how to deal with those who can't be properly identified or act in the way these people are said to have.

There have been numerous reports from Serbian authorities and police with regard to finding lots of discarded passports, many thrown away in bushes and hidden in the undergrowth, none of them Syrian, but from numerous other countries in Asia and Africa, so how many opportunists moving into Europe are trying to pass themselves off as genuine Syrian refugees is anybodies guess.
