There aren't many posters at all here who are based in Madrid.
I'm in Madrid later in the month, but I'll be too busy (and too old) anyway to join in a bar crawl.
You're probably best going to an Irish pub and seeing what's going off - there are English language magazines that have listings.

Hola Steviedeluxe, thanks for the reply. I am not into bar crawling hahahaha, I am a wine person and love my food. This will be my first time visiting Madrid thus would love to maximise my time there to explore, indulge in food and taking photographs.

Well, have a great time anyway. It's normally fantastic weather in September.

This blog may be worth looking at

If you're in Madrid to take photos, try and visit Segovia or Toledo one day. Well worth the trouble.

Thanks Steviedeluxe and Spainrico, I have read the blog and gearing to try the Spanish seafood platters - Parillada de marisco now. Looks yummilicious. Thanks for the suggestion of visiting either Segovia or Toledo. I shall probe into it.
Have a lovely and safe day.

We have made side trips to both those places from Madrid, by rail - Segovia last year and Toledo the year before. Both of them are not much more than half an hour away by train - you need to catch a bus into the city centres from the railway station but they are timed to coincide with train arrival times). From Segovia we came back into Madrid by bus which took longer but we got to see more of the countryside as most of the train journey is through tunnels. Both are lovely places and we found Segovia particularly nice.

One interesting place we found in Madrid last year was the Cisne Azul restaurant (Calle de Gravina in the Chueca district) which specialises in mushrooms (they are kept in glass fronted cupboards in large baskets, and only the proprietor is allowed to take them out, he slices them up and passes them to the cook). It is a funny little place, but busy with well to do looking locals. Near the Mercado de San Anton which is a smaller, less well known version of the Mercado de San Miguel. We found it by the website:-
