We are both on prescribed medication, can anyone please advise what the situation is when we move to Spain.

Pretty easy. Just as you would in the UK, make an appointment with a doctor and he will issue a prescription. If you have the packet take that to doctor.

I am a pensioner I pay prescription charges, however I believe the amount varies depending upon the area you reside in.

I'm not a pensioner but I pay €2.60 every 2 months for a prescription for a pack of 60 Enalapril tabs to keep my blood pressure down.

Under the Spanish health system you pay for prescriptions according to your declared ( in Spain ) income. There are set rates. As a norm it is about 10% of the cost but there is a monthly maximum for each income level. Above €18.000,- it is Euro 18,59 a month up to an income of €100.000,- Below €18.000,- it is Euro 8,26.

I forgot my UK prescribed medication when visiting Andalucia recently and I paid €16.50 for 28 40mg Pantaprozole. I shopped around and it was the same price in 3 unrelated pharmacies so the price must be controlled either by the manufacturers or the government.

There is a useful website where you can find the price (and lots of other information) of any medication in Spain. Just type the name of the drug (the British brand name might not be recognised) and the dosage (ie 1mg, 2mg etc) in the Search box (busqueda personalizada) and when the result comes up look at the figure next to PVP con IVA (that's the price including VAT). As has been said, if you are a pensioner you'll pay 10% of that price, subject to the monthly caps depending on income.

You asked for it over the counter and you would have been given the total cost
