Medical Tests - Relative costs
As a rough guide does anyone know if private medical tests (scans, xrays etc) are cheaper in Spain compared to the UK?
Although I do not have private medical insurance, there are times that I would find the flexibility of a 'payed for' test very convenient - particularly as I visit Spain on a regular basis.
Thank you for any feedback.

They are very much cheaper. A chest x-ray with 2 or 3 pictures is about €60. An ultrasound is about the same. An MRI can be as low as €150 and CT scans about the same.

Excellent. Appreciate your response. I am finding it more and more difficult synchronising UK medical appointments with trips to Spain.
Would I need to see a private doctor for a referral or could I book a test directly do you know?
Thanks again.

Just arrange an appointment with the relevant doctor in a private hospital and they will arrange any tests required. I have no idea of UK prices but I think the prices I have paid in Spain (Alicante) are cheap. ie Had a full 'MOT' (or ITV hahah) with scans etc (took all morning) and later including full appraisal of results etc for 400€. Check hospital's website for costs and options etc.

Just as an aside - I was just speaking to a friend (lives in Spain) and he has just been to Mexico for a new type of cure for prostate cancer which appears to be amazing - I have been googling it (out of interest, don't need it TG)

Couple of days but will depend on the hospital, its resources and the demand (and urgency)

And more importantly, you usually get the results very quickly. Not like the UK NHS where you can wait for weeks. For an echo, you should get the results when you leave.

No I haven't, but a good friend has and the wait for the MRI scan results was so long he had another done privately.
