Well I have to tell you I've found the whole episode quite upsetting.

I had another locksmith (English, Steve Taylor) around and he has replaced the locks at a cost of €116. As opposed to the €350 that the Spaniard charged (and originally quoted €450). Steve covers Pego, Oliva, Gandia, Javea, Denia etc and also acts as a key holder etc etc and if anyone needs the details then I have them, pm me.

He says its not unusual for Spaniards to charge a fortune.

The more sinister side has surfaced. People here have asked if it could possibly be the original locksmith himself, generating more business. There are a number of reasons this conclusion was reached, if not only because the guy operates from a motor scooter and just happened to have the right locks under his seat last time.

I think its going to happen again unfortunately, and if so we will have to have some special blanking plates made which lock with an allen key.

Feeling somewhat stressed and p!ssed off at the moment.

Does Vaseline really work? (No smutty comments please :))

I do feel for you. It is extremely unsettling when this sort of thing happens. I am sure you will sort this out, one way or another, but in the meantime, not knowing why must have caused you untold grief.

I used a Spanish locksmith in the summer and I think it cost me 35 euros but he only had to "break in" - not replace locks. He is well know and respected in the N Costa Blanca.
