OK thanks for that detailed explanation. I have no religion either. Looks like a tough question... I'm happy to withdraw it....

It's a good tough question. I would love a religious person to try to answer it. Not much chance of that on here.

Yeah, we get it, you know "all about guns"..... the point is, you said it was rubbish that she was shot at point blank and survived and the bus full of children he shot her in front of (one bullet passed through her temple by the way) tell a different story.

I couldn't believe that post either.... 9mm pack a lot of punch and its amazing (a miracle??) that she has survived it all as I said in the opening post. A wonderful and amazing girl... and perhaps a figurehead for change. I'd even have a go at praying for that!!

There is a lot of noise coming from Pakistan about this, not because they want to see change in any way but because they have been made to look down right stupid and stone age in the eyes of the world, a look that, if I know my Pakistani friends at all, they will hate. Nothing will change sadly, the extremists are in a position of too much power and control among a largely illiterate population where they operate and Pakistani politicians know that they are only ever one click away from being assassinated so this will simply blow over. If it was up to me, I'd have spared Iraq and Afghanistan and just gone after Pakistan, bombed the crap out of it, given it back to India and let them deal with the crap!

I think the only reason this doesn't happen is that Pakistan has nuclear weapons. Who helped them get those I wonder?

Watched a great documentary the other night about the British Police foiling a terrorist plot to put liquid bombs on aircraft. The terrorist in the Uk were being directed from Pakistan. UK police had them under surveillance and uncovered the plot to bomb planes from Heathrow to the US. They warned the americans but said they wanted to wait as long as possible before making arrests to be sure they got as many people involved in the plot as possible. They thought there were around 20 of them.
What did the americans do? They told the Pakistanis who promptly arrested the contact in Pakistan.
The british had to scramble about to arrest the UK suspects sooner than they wanted. Fortunately they managed. What happened to the guy arrested in Pakistan? Oops he seems to have escaped (or been let go).
He was eventually killed by the US sometime later.
Pakistan wonders why the US didn't tell them when they were going to get Bin Laden.

all I can says is - its a good job we have a "special relationship" with US. Look what happens when countries don't have that "privilege"

That so called 'special relationship' has always seemed completely onesided to me. The americans get whatever they want from the UK and whoever is the British Prime Minister of the day gets to feel important and play in the big sandpit.

Once in a blue moon the UK puts its foot down - as in the case of Gary McKinnon. Mostly they just roll over.

Interesting how the UK press always reports a British PM visiting the White House as if its something that never happens to any other european leader.

believe we had one of those last month :)
is that why Gary McKinnon has been reprieved ??

as to the UK press, they did manage to report Hollande being in US within (ISTR) a week of being elected, before meeting most of his EU fellow leaders. Otherwise they don't report much except anti-EU vitriol. A good job Rajoy doesn't speak Spanish - yet another broken promise. But he really doesn't have the time.

I know he doesn't say much, and most of what he says doesn't make sense, but .....????

I see in the news this morning that she seems to be making good progress. If she stays in the U.K., will she be safe?

It's a good question. They've already had people claiming to be relatives trying to get access to her. The hospital spokesman gave no details but said they had been stopped.
She's certainly going to need protection.

Speaking of miracles has anyone seen the news that many on pilgrimages to Lourdes had to be evacuated because of floods. You would think their God would make sure all those disabled people got easy access to the shrines wouldn't you:getcoat:

As OP on this thread, I have to say how truly impressed I was with Malala... Before.... During the medical treatment.... And now after, with that amazing speech in the UN. AND STILL a teenager!

What an amazing young lady, I am really impressed.
