Hi I have moved over here for personal reasons and I m looking fpr work in IT if anyone know of anything going in the above area. I have worked in IT for over 20 years, if not anyone know of any casual work going till I find a job in IT which would be the ideal solution for me.

What exactly do you mean by "worked in IT" for 20 years?

Can you be more specific - Bill Gates has worked in IT for 20 years as well and his job is now free

IT (Information Technology) can be an analyst, programmer like myself, or a computer manager, operator or technician. Yes interesting to know if it's easy to get a job in Spain in those fields though I'm not looking for job as I hope to move to Spain to retire. I've worked in IT for over 20 yrs.

I originally started out working ith The DEC Vax Systems then moved on to 1st Line PC support then moved on to 2nd Line and third line and then (application packaging ) delivery of applications to some 16,000 desktops using technologies such as Wininstall, Sysdiff and MSI. I then went on to manage an application packaging team at a large investment bank using Wise Package Studio and the standard Microsoft MSI technology for 7 years. I then went back to being technical and worked for the same bank (ABN AMRO) doing Implementation Management, building of systems in a pre production environment for which I technically tested and then handed over for functional testing to the client. Technologies include Websphere, SQL, Oracle, IIS, Unix Windows 2K and 2K3 server load balancers etc. I have worked with .Net and can program in VBScript etc.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the clarification.

You certainly seem to be well qualified but your work options will probably be with a large multinational company. A lot depends on whether you can speak Spanish or not. Jobs for an English speaking IT expert are more likely to be available in Madrid or Barcelona (and the salary will be much higher).

There are always opportunities for an English speaking PC expert but I fear that the rewards will be out of line with your expectations or your UK salary.

I suggest you seriously look at opportunites in the major cities if you want to capitalise on your experience.

Thanks modfan for your support.. I presume you are an English teacher?

I am not looking for a large salary just a wage that is enough to get myself somewhere decent to live.

I am not even looking for an IT job at the moment I just put my skills down as I was asked to qualify them. Maybe just something casual out of IT at the moment to get me started to learn the language and then move back into IT, there is nothing wrong with that is there?

pcsel............
you are on the right track, but you need to change your forum CV/Job description for something that may give you a little more English language experience, your skills are obviously good in IT but your postings on the forum are letting you down...........

Oh, and by the way.........I was an English language lecturer in the London University....................

Have you not thought of contracting for companies based in the UK or elsewhere in Europe?

Everything you've mentioned above could be 95-100% carried out remotely - i.e. at your poolside - and you'd get the benefit of a sensible daily rate.
