Yes I totally agree with the comments about Hislop's book. I think her 'connections' gave her a head start with sales.

Anyway glad fiction is getting a mention as I intended it to be included in the thread.

Just finished 'I am Spain' David Boyd Haycock - the SCW as seen through the eyes of many famous writers and poets from their work and personal letters etc. Well worth a look.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Orwell's 'Homage to Catalonia' some of his other works were also inspired by his Spanish experiences.

Anybody on goodreads or Shelfari?

Anyone else enjoyed the Robert Wilson detective novels featuring the character Javier Falcon and set in Sevilla - I certainly did.

Enjoyed and loved them - great stuff. I sent Robert Wilson an email to congratulate him on having them made into TV drama and received a nice reply from him.

For anyone tempted to read them - It is best to read them in sequence.

Nice! Some time ago I read "Las Cenizas de Ángela" (Angela's Ashes) and I asked a question in a Spanish forum about a particular bit of translation, and the translator of the book, Alejandro Pareja answered. Like you, I thought that was very good of him, he's a prolific translator, and we went on to swap e-mails for some time. A really nice man.

Hey Agoreira - just finished the Ted Walker book - really enjoyed it, pity it is not more well known. Deserves to be and he covers an era (70/80s) which many of the other popular books do not. Thanks.

Good! Would I recommend you a bad book? Not sure if I have already mentioned it, but I really enjoyed this book, The Sentinel. Fiction, and as yet only out in hardback, so maybe better to wait for the cheaper version as you're spending too much on books already.

Both my wife and I enjoyed it, and quite a book at nearly 600 pages! I have now lent it to a friend, see how she gets on with it.
Have you a link to your review?
