Smile Living in Jaen, want to move to coastal Galicia

Hello, I am a newbie to this Forum

Lived in Jaen Province for 2 years, and find it extemely hot from June till Sept.
Have to hide, blinds down air-con on until at least 7pm , most days

So we are looking to sell here and move North.
Anyone able to point us in right direction,re estate agents ,areas, etc ,hoping to find something coastal, near town/village,and not too far from fairly good town/city.

Your best bet is to take some time out and come and visit Galicia. There are many beautiful cities and towns here. One thing you must take into consideration is there is no expat community as such. We are equal distance between Ferrol and Lugo, being the nearest cities, but I cannot say I miss the big city. The only reason we go there is to visit Aki or a large supermarket and stock up on ketchup. There are many local independent estate agents around in each town, but the main one is Reina (not sure of spelling) and Galiciavista. There is someone else who posts on here regularly who lives in Galicia. I think he has lived here alot longer than I have and he maybe able to help you out more. We live near Viveiro (northwest coast)which is a lovely town, with fantastic coast and with a wonderful warm sunny climate (no humidity) it is a beautiful place.

The coast of Galicia is basically broken up into zones. Rias Altas, Baixas and a section called the Costa Morte. The most northerly section of the coast is usually the wettest. Folks still do not open up their blinds here for some reason, when it does shine maybe they are afraid it will fade the furniture or something.
Like BZ says you have to make some visits, the more the better. Living here in Galicia is not for everyone as there is no expat support and you will have to have reasonable command of Spanish. Most if not all paperwork is in Galician but once settled you will find the locals will help translate into CastelaƱo.
Post here if you want to know more.

Hello,
Thank you so much for your replies.

He who would like to be obeyed speaks Spanish quite fluently(worked in Venezuela for some years)

Take your point about difference in LANGUAGE.
gOOD POINT ABOUT AKI,very handy,is there a Leroy Merlin near?

Whilst not wanting a huge English speaking community,it is nice to have a chat in one's own lingo sometimes.
I live in a large village with perhaps 4 other expats, but most are resident in Alcala area.

Cheers

The nearest Leroy to us is in Santiago. That is about an hours drive each away. We have found that the local shops sell the same things at about the same price, usually lower if you include Petrol. so we have been about 4 times in 4years of living here. Beside the service is usually better and they can tell you what is what.
To see where else they are located in Galicia you will find the information on their website.
