Thank you all who helped with various ideas-
One of the things that I have done is change the language setting on Facebook to Spanish- this forces me to try and work words out. They're not always as I thought so I look them up, can't harm.
Every little helps!

I bought my netbook with Windows XP here in Spain some years ago.

I found there was no way of changing the language from Spanish to English.

It helps.

You can change it, very easily and vice versa

Nope.

Tried for years. Only happens with XP. Been onto Microsoft - nothing.

But just in case I've missed something, what do you suggest ?

TIA.

You need change the service pack to English, first of all you have to change the registry so it thinks its English, 2 minor changes :-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CONTROLSET001/CONTROLS/NIs/LANGAUGE

the 2 at the bottom (default and installlanguage) need to be changed from
I thinik 040a to 0809 or 0009,

then install the English SP3, then watch the magic happen.

If you need you can send it to me and ill do it for you, I wont charge you either

Default is 0809
InstallLanguage is 0C0A

Can you clarify again what they should be ?

Apologies to all for hijacking the thread.

What about just starting again from scratch and installing a new OS in English?

Cost.

I mean, it's usable in Spanish right up until you run into trouble and have to refer the help files, where half the damn words aren't in the dictionary.

:D

0C0a is spanish International, I would change both to 0409 US or 0809 UK

then run the English SP3, or reboot and run it, then after running it should eb in English, but it might take a couple of reboots for all of it to change, sometimes you will still get bienvenido and not welcome but in time it should all change

As I said, "every little helps"

How about if you haven't got anything constructive to say you just sit on your hands? I only joined this forum a few days ago but just a handful of members are rapidly putting me off posting any more-
Rude, ******* smart asses who's been there done it and christ, let's hope I never bump into any of them because I'm quite sure they would laugh smugly at me trying to speak Spanish. Very glad we will be in a finca far away from ex pat communities if this is what you are all like. :frown:

Apologies to those that have genuinely tried to help.

I was going to ask about cost of transporting pets but will find another forum.

No stay on here, some good threads on moving pets. You will fit in well here. Lots of other members are lacking a sense of humour too:D

Please do not let those people put you off posting they are not worth it. Put them on ignore if you feel strongly about their posts. I can assure you that the vast majority of members are not like them and will always try to help.

I think most of the advice here has been very positive, different posters explaining what has worked for them and gave their opinions on various methods as requested ("Would love to know your thoughts") The OP is convinced the Thomas course is brilliant, some of us that have tried various different ways of learning Spanish are not convinced, that's when the toys started coming out of the pram. We have tried to give our thoughts on leaning the lingo, perhaps you can suggest some better ways of learning Spanish based on your experience.

Re: Learning the language?

...and seeing as I was quoted as the offender lets backtrack. The postersaid they had changed their Facebook to the Spanish version to assist in learning. I said that would increase vocabulary by 15 words...come on, what's with the mock outrage, it's not a bleeding crime is it....I thought it was funny anyway(and true:lol:) honest some of you shouldn't be on forums. Talk about trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Usual culprits stepping in I see:thumbdown::thumbdown:
