I wish to find out who the registered legal owners are of a property in the Balearics.

Are the sites quoted on the above thread relevant?

Are there protections in place to prevent someone from illegally changing joint ownership of a property into sole ownership?

This is the cadastral site that combines google maps and cadastral info and gives you information on the site you are inerested in. It works for the two plots either side of mine but I cannot get it to work for my parcel. It is the official site.

This site is the official Registary site but you do need to have some info to start with and it costs about £9 to get the info downloaded

... and does that actually detail who owns what plot?

The reason I ask is that I may wish to purchase the plot next to mine (just a bit of scrub-land really) but obviously need to know who to approach.

You could try the council or better still the neighbours. If it's been unkept for some time the chances are you may have a lot of difficulty as plots like this are often passed on by a handshake and overlooked in records.
