Not a good idea as these type of products are only a "get you home " solution , they often clog up radiator leading to more serious failures , theres no substitute for doing the job properly.

So bearing in mind its age & my present location (very limited tools) I will buy some and report back, now all I have to do is find some ?

Yes I would agree with you (and have done in the past) but these modern products come highly recommended via the trade especially K Seal & as you know the heater matrix can be a pig to replace in many cars (in this case an Opel Astra)

I would think a couple of eggs would do as much good. That works well, however I wouldn't see any of these ideas as a permanent solution.
If you can live without the heater, why not by pass it by joining the inlet and outlet together, rather easy with a bit of copper pipe and some jubeley clips.
Best of luck whatever you try. Don't try to sell it me after lol

It will seal a hole though.
OP seems to be looking for the cheapest option.

BTW a good pal of mine who builds and races classic cars that are often seen at Good-wood highly recommends the product and he knows more about engines than most.
So thanks for the advice & yes I am fully aware of just what some older inferior products are capable of.

I to have rebuilt dozens of engines both for road and race and stand by the fact theres only one way to do a job
