ITV1 C4 Channel Changes - better reception...from today
#1
Got a small satellite dish...??
some bad reception on bigger dishes??
then your reception of ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 , C4, Film 4, e4, m4, should be better from this morning
This morning there have been a number of changes to some channels.
These have affected ITV1s and Channel 4s.
The channels that were on the following frequncies
10.714 H, 10.729 V, 10.758 V, 10.832 H, 10.891 H and 10.906 V
on Astra 2d (the satellite that you require a big satellite dish for) have moved onto the same frequencies on Astra 1N - which many channels can be received on smaller satellite dishes.
In my area these channels are now available on an 80cm satellite dish!
So if you can get Channel 5, then you should also be able to receive ITV2,3,4 and E4 and M4 and Film4.
No updates are required to any boxes, as the frequencies are all the same....Sky boxes and freesat boxes just go to the channels onthe programme guide. If you have another box then you may have to scan the above frequencies, and if your dish is aligned properly then you should be able to receive a few more channels.
And this will be a short term measure until a new satellite is launched later this year.

Thanks for the heads-up.
When the new satellite is launched will these channels still be available on smaller dishes?

It applies to most ITV1 regions, ITV2,3,4, some ITV1HD, C4, E4, M4, Film4.
If you could get them before, then, unless you are in places of extreme fringe reception like Canaries and Greece, then you will not notice much difference. If you could not get them before then you may well be able to get them now.

But you will be less likely to lose the signal in bad weather and it might be a bit more forgiving if the dish gets slightly out of alignment.

And from this morning :
the Irish channels (available with an irish sky card),
the disney channels,
nickelodeons
and ITV1 HDs on 10936 v
that were on 2d, have now also moved over to 1N.
So now they should have better reception (for the next few months at least!)

They have also not been affected by the weather, especially the rain.

All these changes do not seem to have made a great deal of difference to our channels except that the Commons channel seems to have disappeared completely from all our Sky boxes and Euronews is now very variable most of the time not there. These used to be 2 of the stronger channels. Not something I watched a lot but always good to know why. I can still get them on FreeSat on the TV tuner but I have always believed that was the best tuner anyway.
One other odd thing is BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD and C4 HD are all very good now on FreeSat however C5 HD although listed on the Sky boxes does not show and is not listed on the FreeSat EPG. One of my sky boxes in the bedroom has a FreeSat from Sky and I hear that you can get it with that but that TV is old and not HD so have not tried that. One of my 2 Sky plus boxes has the original paired card but not subscribed any longer so acting like a FreeSat card should I be able to get C5 HD on that one.

Hi,
The recenct changes mean that chanenls that prviously requires larger dishes to receive can now be receivd on smaller dishes. For example I can not get Film4 24/7 on my 80cm dish, where as previously it used to go from 6pm on the 1.8m dish.
So depending on your current dish size you may not notice any changes anyway.
BBC Parliament has been on the same frequency since about October. It ha also been on Sky 504 for ages. So when you say "disappeared completely" is that from the listings, or do you not receive the channel when you select it? If you can get them on your Freesat box, then it does not sound like a dish issue, but maybe a tuner problem. Euronews has been on the same frequency sinxce May 2011.If all other channels are OK,and you can live without them then there is no point getting another box.
Five HD is not available on Freesat.
Five HD is currently only on SkyHD and Sky+HD boxes with a working viewing card.
The card can be a freesatfromsky card, an ex subscription card, or a subscription card. AS long as the car dis in a SkyHD or Sky+HD box, and working Five HD will be there.
You will not get FiveHD on your normal Sky+ boxes.
It is expected - note expected - to move to Freesat in the summer.
