Just for those of you that don't know this (we didn't) if you have a Berlingo it is classed as a van and must have it 1st ITV after two years not after 4 years as it is with most over cars. Mal took ours last Tuesday only to be told he was two years over due
The really annoying thing about this is we bought it when it was 1 year old back in August 2005, it then took us another year to get the paper work from the local Citroen dealer (August 2006) meaning we were late paying the car tax due in May 2006) and got fined (dealer payed the fine) he hadn't changed the name on the paper work and still held the papers for it's first ITV when it was due but didn't bother to inform us it was only because Mal kept on and on at him that we got the paperwork and change of ownership sorted. It's enough to drive a gal to drink

You will also have to have itv every 6 months after a certain time, as classed as commercial vehicle.

It depends on what type of vehicle it is classified as on the documents.
A Berlingo, Kangoo and similar "van conversions" are usually called "vehÃÂculo mixto adaptable" or possibly "furgoneta".
Apart from more frequent ITV inspections they have different speed limits to "tourismos" and the maximum permitted speed on a motorway is 100kph, on a dual carriageway 90 and 80 on the rest.

You can check it out on this forum - it's a very active thread and they all seem to have different views on the subject.

Fred, could you let us know if the vehicle is registered as a furgoneta then does it have to have SP plates too?
We ask this out of interest in case we purchase such a vehicles.

I think they have it wrong.usualy a van for hire and reward is SP licenced.and own goods is MP.a kangoo or a berlingo is nothing more than a estate car with a high roof as is any van with seats and windows, thats why people dont buy vans.but we are in a diferant area and they seem to change the rules by the week in spain but if they are going down that road then watch out in a 4x4.just a question did the berlingo have a tow bar fitted stamped on the reg docs

We are not the only people that have been told they are classed as vans and the ITV is every two years it has happened to someone else on BX. No it does not have a tow bar fitted stamped on the reg doc, if you want one fitted you have to apply for this.

Sorry betris I am confused,
please bare with me you say your kankoo is a 99 and the first mot was in 2001, that's two years not four and again in 2003 which would make it right for a van. Anyway whatever, Mal has just checked the original offical document which we will call the log book and it clearly says first ITV due July 2006, making it two years old at time of first ITV.
